Freaky Dream

Recommended Posts

Let me start this post by saying I like football, beer, The Man Show, cleavage, fishing, NASCAR, Slim Jims, steak, and potatoes. Ok, that said, I had a dream with Eric in it last night. And it's not the first time! But last night's was totally wierd. He was "performing" at a yardsale in somebody's basement. He was walking around behind some velvet red ropes wearing a mexican blanket reciting poetry that made absolutely no sense. His hair was totally reggae. No one was paying any attention to him, except me. I wanted to ask for his autograph but he was acting like he belonged on another planet. I was afraid he'd freak out and all the bargain shoppers would ask me to leave. End of dream.

Am I weird? Has Eric visited you in your dreams or should I see a therapist?

Too Funny!! I had never had a dream with Eric in it until last Wednesday oddly enough! Mine wasn't weird though. I think mine was obviously influenced by Roonie's post about eating with him. That's all we did was eat and talk about music. It was great though. When I woke up, I was confused as to whether or not it was real or a dream.

Anybody else dreaming about Eric??

(I once had a dream about Hall and Oates that was pretty amusing--my friend and I ran into them in a bar somewhere and decided to go motorcycle riding with them. We rode for hours and hours and then Daryl decided we better pitch a tent. It was one of those big family-size tents that you see in the K-Mart ads with 2 rooms. It had cots in it! I don't know where in the heck the cots were on the motorcycle eek It was absolutely the most bizaar thing! I'm blushing just thinking about it shocked --as you can imagine, I'm leaving a big chunk of this dream to your imagination!)

I'm a charter member of the 'weird dream' club. I believe mine are post-traumatic due to the break up of the Raspberries and me missing so many of Eric's concerts to cancellations over the years. My dreams generally have the same theme. I have great seats/tickets to an Eric concert. It's usually before the concert and I'm hoping to chat with Eric. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. The weird part is Eric almost never does his music in concert. He's put on musicals ala Rogers and Hammerstein, and other bizarre productions, but only once has he performed his own music. That one was a 'Boats' inspired show. The productions are always very elaborate affairs. Sometimes I get to talk with Eric after the show. I'm available for the group therapy session...Kirk.

Me too! My dream was boring by comparison. It was after getting the Winter Dreams CD. I was walking down a street alone in the dark in winter. It was snowing, and a big car pulls up and the window rolls down. It's EC, and he asks if I'd like a ride home. It's cold out, so I say yes. Instead of going to my house, we go to his, where we discuss all the problems with his old girlfriends.

Odd huh? Put me down for a few sessions on the old couch. I assume the part about all the girlfriends comes from this forum - with Darlene et al.

BTW, do you think that Eric is creeped out to hear people are dreaming about him? I know I would be to hear people are having fantasy dreams about me.

I find it very intriguing that more GUYS are dreaming about Eric than girls! That said, I have some ideas on your dreams.

Dave: "At a yardsale in somebody's basement....

I think you're so frustrated that Eric isn't appearing anywhere that you'd settle for this.

"Wrapped up in a Mexican blanket..." Well, you've obviously been listening to the Spanish/Mexican flavor of "Isn't it Romantic?"

"Reciting poetry that didn't make any sense...hair totally reggae..." It sounds like you have somehow mixed him up with Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. "Acted like he was from another planet" I can't really fathom, except that his music IS out of this world! "Was afraid he'd freak out" sounds like you are probably very surprised that he sat down and had an indepth conversation with Roonie.

Kirk: Poor Kirk! You are SO very frustrated that you can't hear Eric's music in a concert setting that you have him doing a Rogers and Hammerstein extavaganza! Oh boy!!!I think of him more as doing "A Chorus Line" and singing the "T & A" song in a duet with Tony Cartmill, but that's another story...The fact that you never know if you are going to talk to Eric or not is the result of your uncertainty about what's going on with his career, and whether he'll appear anytime soon again...NOT because you think he's inaccessible, because he often talks to you, even after a show, but you just never know.

Michelle: Yours is really interesting! His music must have come along at a time in your life when you needed something cheering, because he comes along just when you need a ride home, saving you from the cold weather. Also, your interest in him and his music must have taken you somewhere you didn't expect to go ("we ended up at HIS house instead of going home...)but your anticipation has been let down a bit ("and he started talking about all his old GIRLFRIENDS!") A disappointing end to the evening, for sure!

As to his old girlfriends, don't look at *ME!*

I am a definite charter member of the weird dreams club, but the closest I ever got to a girlfriend situation with Eric was in one of my dreams when I was very very young...In this dream, I won a place in the front row at one of his concerts with the Raspberries, and he asked me what I was doing after the show. I said "nothing," and he invited me up to his hotel room, complete with champagne on ice and the entire works...There were candles in the room (what a fantasy dream, huh?) and moonlight was streaming through the window, and as he looked into my eyes, somebody started banging on the door and he said "What the %^$^%$#$#$?!" and a whole GAGGLE of girls exploded through the door, and I just remember this feeling of absolute disappointment before I woke up!

But, except for that dream, don't look at ME!

I've never analysed my dreams before, but it's amazing how you've hit everything you said right on the head!

At the time of the dream I had just had my son, and had gone through a terrible pregnancy and afterbirth (I nearly died from a blood clot). Needless to say, motherhood was not what I had expected it to be like, and the added problems associated with the clot made it even more difficult.

Reading this group was one of my only connections with the 'outside' world. So, as Darlene says in her analysis, "His music must have come along at a time in your life when you needed something cheering, because he comes along just when you need a ride home, saving you from the cold weather. Also, your interest in him and his music must have taken you somewhere you didn't expect to go ("we ended up at HIS house instead of going home...)but your anticipation has been let down a bit ("and he started talking about all his old GIRLFRIENDS!") A disappointing end to the evening, for sure!"

A very good analysis of my life at the time to be sure! Now, can you tell me why I keep dreaming about my ex-fiance's mother coming after me? I've been married for 12 years, and haven't seen this woman since 1990. She died right before my son was born. Recently she's been making my life very difficult. She's in my dreams every freaking night!

Kirtk asked, "Uh, could you please define 'fantasy'?"

Merriam Webster defines it as "the power or process of creating especially unrealistic or improbable mental images in response to psychological need"

Me being picked up by Eric on a snowy night and taken to his house is about as unrealistic or improbable as anything I could possibly imagine. So, when I asked what Eric would think of people having fantasy dreams about him, I believe I was using the correct terminology. OK, I have to admit - it wasn't a GOOD fantasy - that would have been much more x-rated. But, technically, it was fantasy.

Darlene,

Are you sure you're not a psychologist? I'm so glad you don't live near me - you'd take business away from me! These dreams are si interesting - I'm going to print them out and take them to the American Psychological Association Conference in Toronto next week and ask my colleagues what they think of them! I wish I could remember my dreams - I daydream so much during the day, there's nothing left for the night.

Steveh, I am not anything NEAR a psychologist! And I would never want to take business away from you! In fact, I was just dabbling, and would really like to hear YOUR analysis of all these dreams, including mine. Dreams can be fun, but some are very scary. When people at my mom's care center started dying due to negligence and abuse, I brought her home to live with me. Even though she was safe, I had a couple of terrifying dreams about what might have happened. But cool dreams are really fun. Give us YOUR take on these, and then let us know what your psychologist/psychiatrist friends think! That should be a good post!

Back in July 23, 1987 thru March 2, 1993, I used to work at the Midland County Courthouse in Midland, Michigan as a janitor cleaning windows, cigarette butts (with my gloves), mopping floors & picking up trash. Back in August of 1991, there was construction in the back parking lot & I thought I had a dream that Wally Bryson was going to hit me with the windex while I was cleaning windows! eek Sure enough that he would hit me instead & I got upset. mad Then Wally would leave & ate his lunch! Tony, you are so funny! Speaking of funny dreams, I'm insisting my husband restore my old Mustang and paint it a color called "wild strawberry" (no--not RASPBERRY), and I had a dream the other night that the concertmaster of my symphony orchestra had a Mustang that color, and I wanted it, so I took it for a joyride and brought it home because the keys were left in it. My husband then said "You have to bring it back to him. He probably will press charges against you and you'll go to jail anyway!" I woke up just after this feeling of dread... What a terrible dream!

I think it's because my husband is not making progress on the project as quickly as I want...

Steveh, what do you think about this one????

Darlene,

I just got back from the APA Convention in Toronto. Instead of listening to a boring presentation, I wrote my interpretations of the dreams in this thread. I will have to dig out the paper I wrote it on tomorrow. As for your Mustang dream - who cares about the interpretation - you are TOO frustrated about waiting - just go out a buy a new Mustang - your husband is taking too long! spin

While I was at the APA convention in Toronto, I asked the audience if they would like to provide dream interpretations for EC.com...well, I didn't exactly say that, though I thought of it, and I thought better of it, so here are my interpretations:

Dave: Your description of Eric's attire/demeanor combined with your statement that "no one was paying attention to him, except me" is consistent with an EC fan's belief that it doesn't make sense that Eric isn't more widely-recognized than he is. Perhaps the fact that he wouldn't give you his autograph relates to your frustration that Eric rarely makes CD's or performs. You asked, "Am I weird?". Probably...join the club. "Should I see a therapist?" Sure! Why wouldn't you?

Julie, it's a lot easier to dream about conversing with Eric as opposed to traveling to Cleveland and waiting for Eric to appear somewhere. Think of how much money and time you saved!

Kirk, I agree with Darlene that you are very frustrated with Eric's lack of activity. My advice is to get a hobby and be happy that you can always pop in an EC.

Michelle, Darlene again provided an excellent interpretation. I would add that the fact that Eric drove you to his house and discussed his old girlfriends may correspond to your disappointment re: not being able to communicate with Eric.

Darlene, First, it's interesting that you wrote "...more guys are dreaming about Eric than girls!". I speculate that heterosexual males identify with Eric and may imagine that they are singing to their lovers, while heterosexual females may imagine that Eric is singing to them. The opposite may be true for gays!

Re: your dream, I think that most of us have a rational part of us that invades even our dreams - bursting our bubbles - that's what that stupid "GAGGLE" of girls was about! smile
