More Unreleased Songs!

I was surfing through the 'berries site and saw this info about Andy Cahan:

"In 1993, Eric Carmen recorded 11 songs at Andy's studio that he had composed before Raspberries. These songs include: How Can You Tell, Quiet Train, Now I'm Alone, Your Last Chance, So Little Time, I Need Your Lovin', Morning, Cartoon World, All Things Must End, Straight Time, and Cindy."

So Eric has even more unreleased songs than I had thought. Also the above statement indicates that "Cartoon World" (at least the title) pre-dates the "Winter Dreams" cd.

Several years ago I contacted Andy and in the course of our e-mail conversation I mentioned how big a fan of Eric's I was and how great it would be to hear those recordings. Andy was very nice about the zero possibility of that happening. Oh well, Kirk.

Well if those songs are pre-Raspberries, they're 30+ years old. Why Eric would want to record them is anyone's guess (Eric are you reading???!!), and why only "Cartoon World" made it onto "Winter Dreams" does not speak too highly of the quality of the songs. At least in Eric's mind.

I thought John Wesley Harding wrote the words to Cartoon World. Is the whole song that old, or did EC write the music to CW, then had the words written afterwards.

Actually, CW was a great song on that album. If the other songs are of that caliber, they certainly could be another strong album. See Eric, you don't even have to spend a lot of time writing new material - just clean up the stuff you already have and give us that! Can't you tell from reading our posts that we're getting to be a desperate bunch?!

The songs that Eric recorded with Andy Cahan were demos for publishing purposes. He did a combination of old songs (like Cyrus Erie's "Cindy In The Wind") and a bunch of newer tunes including "Cartoon World" which *was* co-authored by Harding and made it onto WINTER DREAMS. --Bernie

I think Harding and Eric met in the break room at a studio that they were both recording in and decided to write something together. If I remember right some of the lyrics were changed from the original Cartoon World to the one on Winter Dreams. I think the Gameboy stuff was added.

Just looking at the wide range of opinions on even

one cut shows how complicated "appealing to the masses" and having a commercial success is!

I too would love to hear ECs old unreleased things, just to hear what he was doing at that time.

As for "Devil" and some of the other beautiful ones, I wish he would release them. And I'm sure he IS reading everyone's appeals for more/new

music.

What makes you so sure that EC IS reading everyone's appeals for more/new music? How weird would that be, reading about yourself on an internet forum? I'd HAVE to set people straight when they got things wrong about me. It would also be odd to see people talking about how much they like or hate me, based solely about what they know about me through my music. I know I would find it odd if it was me!

Of course, EC likely doens't even have internet access, and doesn't know anything of our agonizing for scraps of any music of his - even old recordings he likely doesn't even remember doing. How sad and pathetic is that of us?! Oh well, at least we all get to spend time here with Tony, and that makes it all worthwhile! :)

Not only does Eric read the Message Board at EricCarmen.com but he will sometimes refers to posters to me by their screen name! --Bernie

I found this on the message board under the thread, "Does Eric Read the Message Board".

There are some artists (Kyle Vincent and Billy Falcon come to mind) who not only regularly visit their websites, but also contribute into the discussions. It would be great to have Eric throw in his two cents every now and then.

I think Eric used to do that back when there was a forum on AOL, but the morons who like to stir up trouble started giving him a hard time & he abandoned ship. I don't blame him, who needs that crap? He does give us his two cents through Bernie every now & then.

Oh, ye of little faith!: First of all, I can't imagine someone as cutting edge as Eric not having internet access. Come ON! Like I said, I'm sure he is in touch with people on both coasts constantly over musical things.

Secondly, Bernie has said (I don't know HOW many times!) that Eric visits and reads posts from everyone. Period. If Bernie says it, it's true.

(And don't anyone say I'm "following blindly" what Bernie says--it's just that Bernie has NEVER lied to anyone, and why WOULD he?)

Thirdly, Bernie just said he's visiting regularly, "so sit up straight." There you go. Like I said, when Eric's room is finished....music will come forth. Have more faith....! And I'm NOT just making "lemonade."

June, It's only human nature to be fascinated by

what others think of you. I can imagine how difficult it must be for actors to read press about them. Some actors have had to adopt personal policies not to read reviews, because they were so affected. I'm sure Eric doesn't sit

down everyday and get glued to the board, but I have to believe Bernie that he cares what his fans

think, especially his most loyal, and that the does read from time to time. And everything is out here for so long, I'm sure he eventually comes

across most of it.

Prior to Bernie's great site there was an EC chat room on AOL that Eric would frequently pop in on and answer questions --- as previously stated a good thing ended when some moron reported him to AOL for using the word "shitty" in a post. Anyone out there remember those Sunday night chats?

Billy, I heard something about this before, but maybe you could fill in the details. I've only been online and computer-literate for about 5 years. We had a computer far longer, but I just couldn't/wouldn't take the time to learn it while my husband did, so I let him learn it all, then try to explain it to me. After I mastered word-perfect, (we weren't internet-connected yet) he took me to the library to show me how the internet worked. I was instantly amazed (and instantly hooked!), and just typed up "Eric Carmen" and to my surprise found Bernie's website!

After a happy twenty minutes or so (it wasn't nearly as extensive as now), I demanded that Herman get our computer linked to the worldwide web. So, I was out in the cold during the AOL days. Fill in the gaps for those of us who weren't lucky enough to visit. And how did you know it was really Eric in the chatroom?

Michelle, That would be great, wouldn't it? I am hoping Billy will stop by and fill us in on how long ago the AOL thing was up and who started it and how--was it Bernie?

Anyway, I can't believe that somebody would actually REPORT another person for one lousy innocuous word! Obviously a troublemaker just looking to wreck a good thing. As Billy so aptly puts it, a moron. Actually, although (and steveh could correct me on this, he's a psychologist)such labels are no longer used, when human intelligence was labelled, I believe the moron was at the top of the intelligence scale. The imbecile or idiot was at the bottom. The "reporter" was obviously one of those.

I'd like to hear more about the old chat room, though.

Eric posted on the old AOL Eric Carmen message board back in 1997 and 1998. At first he posted under a screen name and did not identify who he was, Only a couple of us knew who he was. Wehn he did post under his name, the trouble makers on the board would go in and say it was not him. He would pop in and answer questions that his fans left and comment on things that the posters would say. We had a lot of posters who would start trouble in there putting down Eric ect... One day someone reported Eric for something he said in his post to AOL. At that point he decided he would not post any longer, and the board eventually closed down since most of the posters decided to stop posting along with Eric. The posts are no longer available on AOL. If anyone wants to see them then anyone who saved the posts would need to copy them on here. I know of a couple of people who saved the posts, and read this board so they might repost the Eric posts for everyone to read.

I won't allow those posts reprinted here since there are plenty of people's names and personal info in them. I do have them compiled and plan on pulling the pertinent E.C. qotes out of them for you all to see in the near future.

Eric was somewhat amused by the AOL mess in that when he finally did reveal who he was, all of the people who were bashing him wouldn't believe it. I think the first time he was reported to AOL it was because AOL has a rule against impersonating someone else. Eric was turned in for impersonating Eric (if you can believe it!) :o

Those were fun days, for sure! It was addictive. Everyday, I would race home to see what mayhem was being waged on the Raspberries and Eric Carmen AOL boards. --Bernie
