MAM
So, I'm flipping through the channels around midnite and lo & behold, I come across George Martin sitting at the piano talking about beautiful melodies & what makes a song memorable. Next scene he's in the studio playing All By Myself. Celene Dion is standing next to him doing the singing, but none the less, he's playing an Eric song. Pretty cool. Love that Ovation channel. Raspbernie
I remember Eric talking about this but have never seen it. Wish someone had a clip of that!
MAM
I just checked the Ovation network on line. They've been playing the program since last July. Last night was the last broadcast of it according to the website. Arghh ... and I fell asleep halfway through it. I just got the channel a few weeks ago .... dab nab it! Kirk
I know her voice is polarizing, but- love her or hate her- she can sing! Nice piece.
LC
That is just... awesome. Awesome! That had to have been a HUGE thrill for Eric to see George Martin actually playing his song on piano and talking (voiceover) about how some melodies/songs can reduce us to tears. Wow! The guy who helped make the Beatles the Beatles is clearly a fan of "ABM" -- he was playing it with such soul. Thanks for posting this, MAM, and thanks for finding the YouTube link, John. Great stuff....Dream collaboration: George Martin producing a Raspberries album of all-new material.
raspathens
George Martin's playing curls the beauty of the song around the listener. Great find John.
Guest
Just goes to show you that Eric's talents are EVERYWHERE!If it came to my mind in a hospital, think about the bus drivers who have hardly any customers at night. What might they be humming?

MAM
I wrote a note asking the Ovation Network if that particular series may be for sale in the future. That would be cool. Not heard from them yet.
wimvriezen
When I walked out of the supermarket today, I heard "All by myself" by EC and I heard a woman sing along with the music, I smiled at her and I saw her thinking: "Who is this guy??"... seattlesteve
Performs with Ringo, George Martin plays his signature piano song citing classic melodies, all that's left.. something with Macca.. those two voices together would be electric,
mannoman
I just put it on my iPod. It is awesome. Thanks for finding it.I don't think people dislike her voice, I believe it is her personality - her overly theatrical/dramatic rendering, which appears so contrived and not natural (the proper word escapes me).I have seen her live, in Vegas, and was thoroughly entertained by her voice and the production values of the show but I am not a big fan, for the aforementioned reasons. Guest Fresh
Can't handle Celine Dion. I don't want to say anything negative about her, but I have thousands of LP's, cassettes,45's,and CD's,but not one of them is a Celine Dion recording. She actually grates on my nerves. Now Dusty Springfield, there was a superstar female singer. Guest Fresh
For a good laugh(or acute nausea),check out youtube and search "Celine Dion AC/DC You shook me all night long".Almost as bad as William Shatners' LP of songs back in the late 60's.Celine is the Ed Wood of diva's and her cover of AC/DC is her very own "Plan 9 From Outer Space".For even more fun,Google "Celine Dion sucks" and be prepared to saturate your Depends!!! Eric Carmen
If memory serves me, the very next segment from the George Martin special was an interview with Paul McCartney, where he talked about waking up with a melody in his head (and then he sings the melody of "All By Myself") and wondering, as a songwriter, whether he'd heard it somewhere before, or was it something original? I'd love to get a copy of this special because, to be honest, watching George Martin use MY SONG as the example of a GREAT MELODY was pretty much as good as it gets for me. That moment was better than a gold record.ec
Eric Carmen
As an artist, when you find out someone you admire is a fan, that's just the best! My proudest moments have been finding out John Lennon or Bruce Springsteen or George Martin liked what I did. Or for that matter, Steven King, Paul Stanley, Jon BonJovi and Steve Cropper.ec
Braves fan
I was on the Raspberries site, and as I scrolled down, I saw a quote from Rick Springfield, which immediately caught my attention....so I read on and when I saw Paul Stanley......My jaw dropped....But I've always thought of him as the smart one of the group anyhow! Great clip!!Nite ya'll!!Ronda

Danny S.
Ok, my two cents worth...everyone seems to "slam" Celine Dion. The first time I heard of her, was "Power Of Love" on the radio, and I said, what a voice...ok, later, she started to become "Let me see how many notes per second I can sing" a-la- Yngwee Malmsteen is to guitar. But still, that woman has a great voice, and a tremendous range. Her version of "All By Myself", the part when she modulates up,gives me chills.Just my opinion....
