WCBS-FM Hall Of Fame: Raspberries

Recommended Posts

This is neat --- WCBS-FM in New York City has Raspberries in its "Hall Of Fame" at http://www.wcbsfm.com/hall_of_fame.php . The Raspberries entry is at: http://www.wcbsfm.com/hall_of_fame-artist.php?id=000000000000048 ... considering the few acts they've chosen, Raspberries are in a small but very impressive club.

Also found an interview with Eric Carmen and Jim Bonfanti from 2005 that I hadn't read before at the "Scream If You Want It" website --- http://www.screamifyouwantit.com/mambo/content/view/28/29/ --- written by Hank Magitz. Kind of interesting to read sales figures for the albums "Raspberries" (200,000 copies) and "Fresh" (300,000 copies).

I like Eric's comments at the end of the interview about the "challenge" of writing new songs for the band.

Actually the Hall of Fame was a nightly feature when CBS-FM was an oldies station. In a quest to attract younger demographics, after 30+ years as a heritage oldies station, the format was flipped to a "JACK" format. There was a huge backlash when the station changed formats (addressing a room of radio executives, Steve Van Zandt likened the format flip to replacing the Statue of Liberty with a blow-up doll), so to appease oldies fans, they streamed oldies (minus all air personalities who were dismissed when the station flipped) on their website and now via HD radio. Of course very few people own an HD radio, but that's a different story for a different day.

I love it! "...gorgeous slice of Anglophilia..." etc etc. Thanks so much for sharing this! Comparing Overnight Sensation to Good Vibrations!

Now, they'll have to update their entry with more info from "Raspberryologists" Ken Sharp and Bernie Hogya.
