darlene
I just heard the song "After You," and am completely blown away. I'm in the same kind of trance I was in upon first hearing Raspberries--I can't even speak. A perfect time to go to sleep.Anyone else hear it, besides Bernie and Gina? --Darlene

darlene
Awhile ago, someone brought up Seth Swirsky, a songwriter. Last night, while we were chatting, Bernie asked us if we wanted to hear a song by Eric and Seth Swirsky, called After You. It seems Seth has a "sethplayer" on his website, seth.com, on which the tune is available. You have to go to the site, launch sethplayer (you need Quicktime, which is why I couldn't get it while we were chatting, but Gina did and said the song was "dreamy.") Anyway, find the category, "Hits and Misses" and click it, and find the songtitle "After You." When it loads, you will find on top a picture of Eric in his apartment in 1983 (when they wrote the song together) at his piano, and underneath will be a story you will have to use the mouse to move down, which tells how they came to write the song together. Ultra-cool, no kidding! About 1 AM or so, I finally went on Seth's website and found it.At 2:20 I was still listening to the song (seriously). Eric is singing it. It's extremely beautiful and extremely moving. Be prepared to cry. --D
mannoman
Dar - Bernie -- I found it - Thank you. What a great song. Eric ahould have recorded this one. What a super melody. Seth is a talented guy.Ted
darlene
I know. Here we go again. (I thought, "Eric should have recorded this one" too!)It really knocked me out. Gord mentioned that he loves "The High Cost of Lovin' You." I think Eric and Seth Swirsky wrote that one too. --Darlene
Trindy
Whew...thanks, Darlene, for telling us about this one. My eldest sis and I listened to it tonight and made good use of the tissues. Damn, that guy can get to us so easily...I wasn't that crazy about "The High Cost of Loving," but this one killed me. Why did he never fomally record it? Sheesh... darlene
A great Ask Eric question, Trindy, although there are just a lot of things Eric didn't record. I've asked myself that about "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," and others as well. After You is truly a special song. If I haven't worn out "Sethplayer" yet, it must be indestructable! "The High Cost..." is cute. I can think of a former boyfriend who could have composed the lyrics... --D
Brian Mac
And where Oh Great Tigress can one find "The Cost of Loving" on line? My cassette copy is just about worn out.
darlene
I have no idea. It probably isn't on line. At least *you* have a cassette copy. Most people don't. Marvin or Cartmill may have it. "The High Cost of Loving You" is adorable, in my opinion.Oh Great Tigress! Now *that* is funny! I used to wear "Tigress" perfume by Faberge in college. Hmmm, wonder if they still make it? Probably not. I'll have to visit "longlost perfumes" online. What do I do if I want to use an alias? Call myself "Tiger Lily?"!--D
Brian Mac
One would never suggest an alias to the Great Ferocious One for fear of being clawed apon and ripped apart, bloodied and left in a ditch by the Lioness Queen.

darlene
Anyone else hear After You? I'm still basking in the first glow of hearing it... --D
Brian Mac
Yes Dar, I listened to it several times last night. I'm about 9 months out of a relationship that never should have ended. That might be the only song I've ever heard that truly sums up the way I feel sometimes.
Kirk
It took about eight bars to fall in love with it, and by the end of the chorus it was in my top 10 Eric songs Kirk.

kazumi
Darlene, Thank you for the information about Seth Swirsky's website. I listened to " After You " and it almost made me cry.Now we really need a project in order to convince Eric to fomally record these songs.Kazumi
darlene
Kazumi, The information came from Bernie, while we were chatting. I didn't know about it until he told us. I just posted it, because the song blew me away. Bernie knows EVERYTHING! (I would love to be able to climb up into his head and uncover all the lovely secrets he knows, but it wouldn't leave any surprises, so I guess I'd rather find it all out bit by bit.) Besides, Kathy's already DONE that! --D
popdude
Yes, I mentioned Seth on here a while back. Super-talented and a heck of a nice guy, to boot. I highly recommend his CD, titled INSTANT PLEASURE. You can get it at his website, or from www.notlame.com
darlene
This song has inscribed itself on my brain. I've been singing it since I first heard it this weekend! I got into my classroom early this morning and sat down at the piano and started playing it. The vocal music teacher came in and asked "What IS that? It's beautiful!" So I had to explain. She made me play it twice. I've been singing it in my head all day. It's absolutely GORGEOUS. Unforgettable...can't stop... --Darlene
JuliaAllByMyself
I don't know if I've been more tired and dozy than normal over the past few days, but I still can't find "After You' anywhere on Seth.com, despite Darlene's kind directions. It brings up the Quicktime icon, but that's about it. Has "The High Cost of Loving You' been a previous MP3? I can't trace that one either. Is there any hope for me?!
