KC
Well, after watching "Hanging with the Raspberries" on VH1 Classic a few times, (and fast forwarding through all those "other" videos that came along with it) I have come to realize that I REALLY like the slow, acoustical version of IWTBWY. It takes on a whole new aura and meaning. The faster version being about youth, lust, and a sense of urgency. The slower version gives of a sense of being more true to yourself and someone else, with age comes wisdom, like, yeah, I really do want to be with you. My husband, KC, thinks this version of the song would be great in a movie soundtrack, (so do I) some romantic chick flick, or tragic love story.Mrs. C.PS. KC, after all these years, I still WTBWY. darlene
What about a love story with a *happy* ending? It sounds like Mr. and Mrs. C. have one! The movie idea is a great one. I was struck by the sense of fulfillment/happiness that was communicated so perfectly in that song. WOW! Goosebumps! I *still* just can't get it out of my head! --Darlene

Trindy
It's true that the slower version gives it a feeling of depth that it lacks as a rock song. I love both versions--one for its feeling of young, thrilling urgency and the other for its slower, more mature, considered feeling. Also, listening to it this way, I have to admit I came to a new thought about the lyrics. (Bear with me here, because we're going to get a bit sexual. I know...Raspberries lyrics, *sexual*? Never... )Anyway. I believe the fans have, if not here, in person or somewhere, said at some point that those lyrics "If you believe what we're doing is right/Close your eyes and be still" are a bit strange and unromantic--that they are a bit of a surprise from Eric especially, that they sound like someone who doesn't want the woman to be, er, an active participant in what is going on, but just wants her to shut up and let him do this, so to speak. Well, I will confess...listening to the words this way, in this form, gave me a new insight into how one could interpret them...namely, as saying "If you believe this is right, then just lie back, relax and let me do the work here. You don't have to do anything right now...just feel and enjoy." In other words, very unselfish. "Don't worry about me--just let me take care of you for now." (With, quite possibly, the idea that she will return the favor later on...)OK, so now I feel like that Canadian woman with the sex show on TV...Enough! This is the last I have to say on the subject! But I bet that none of you who reads this will be able to hear those lyrics quite the same way again! And oh dear, I fear my sig line is going to look REALLY salacious with this post! Oh well! Such is life!

darlene
Now that I've heard the new version *many* more times, I updated my thoughts in the Hangin' With Raspberries thread, page 10. This rendition is so beautiful that I have to say something here too. The arrangement is breathtaking and the keyboard parts are *brilliantly* gorgeous. Now, for something completely different: Trindy, don't you ever get hot flashes thinking about all this stuff? --Darlene
