Never wanna DO IT...againnnn.

Recommended Posts

It's been years since I heard this.... So awesome. Love the way Sinatra "standardized" "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again."

PS: And I'm in that Dino over Frank camp,  even if it's not the cool preference. I love Frank, but there was something about the quality of Dean Martin's voice.... It was just more friendly and human, or something Iike that.

Hey LC...

Have to agree...not a Sinatra fan.  I do like some of his work, but on some base level, he gives me the creeps for lack of a better description.  From a female point of view, I just cannot fathom what the bobbysoxers saw in Sinatra.

Dean Martin IS more human and approachable...he has a nice vibe, and I find his voice to be more lyrical.

In this same genre, I DO like Perry Como!

I never thought of Mr. Sinatra as giving one the creeps, I found him intensely arrogant and full of himself with entitlement issues---not to mention I absolutely detest his singing voice.    I found him more tolerable in a few acting roles that did NOT require he sing at some point during the flick.  For all you who are fans of his, I know this view is tantamount to sacrilege and is not a view in the majority.  Sorry, Everybody Loves Somebody --- sometime, but NOT this time for me.  I can't stand Sinatra the man or the singer, and just slightly like Sinatra the actor.

Love both Dean and Perry, Susie B, I'm with you on that score.

P.S. --- I did bother to listen to Sinatra's version --YUK!  -- he mangled and massacred the song!  Mr. Sinatra is NO ERIC CARMEN......no comparison whatsoever, no matter how others may think Mr. Carmen should be flattered by such a well-known person taking note publicly of his talents.  If Mr. Sinatra attempted to cover another of Mr. Carmen's songs, I won't bother a second time to take a listen.  EEEESHH!!

Eric was so flattered that Sinatra sang a couple of his compositions. Regardless of how you feel about his interpretations, it really was the highest compliment!

In fact, during some of the soundchecks for the Raspberries reunion shows, Eric would do his impression of Frank singing "All By Myself!" Quite a treat!

At least we all agree on Eric's voice and talent. The key here I think is that the love of music, whatever the style, genre or whomever delivers it is the most important thing. If you listen to Cab Calloway, you can hear his influence in Dean Martin's singing style. You can hear Little Richard in Paul McCartney. If you were around Sinatra when he was drinking Jack, he was ok. Catch him when he was drinking Gin, you didn't want to be anywhere near him. Sinatra's last wife Barbara had him on anti-depressants which mellowed him. Perry Como puts me to sleep. Anyway, goodnight.
