The NH Bushman
Maybe he's just too happy with his personal life to come up with a great album. Great for him, but sad for us! After my publisher and I heard "I'm Through With Love" for the first time, we sat in silence for a few minutes. Then he said "I wonder what happened...." followed by "God, I hope he's alright."I used to tell women: "Do what you want to me, I'll just write a hit record, so you can KMA." lol It's like that. Really. It is!
LostControl
Alanis Morrisette (from Ottawa, by the Way) always gets in trouble from the press for that very thing. I've noticed she gets asked a lot in interviews if men are afraid to date her, because if the relationship doesn't work out, she writes some pretty venomous stuff about the relationship, how she was treated, etc. She's not the first person to use her bad experiences to become a Grammy winning artist, probably just the first woman to do it with such force. Now that she's engaged and soon to be married, do you think the quality of her music will go downhill? Will her next project be her "Winter Dreams"? Will she be writing lullibyes in the next five years and putting out a children's album? Hard to say, but all signs point that way... LobsterLvr
Just a quick note to say thanks to all the great people in this forum. I am no longer in purgatory when it comes to the Devil and The Deep Blue Sea. Dave

MAM
Well, as I've discussed with a few people here, we've been messin' about with D&TDBS. This song describes a particular point in my life exactly & affects me like no other. We get bunches of requests for it when we play out. So I decided to do something with it. For the next 48 hours you can hear a sample of what we have so far. Click on the link & you'll get about 2 minutes worth of our most recent work session. Note to Eric: Don't worry, IF this ever gets finished, we'll definitely apply for the mechanical license through the Harry Fox Agency. Wouldn't do it any other way, your my hero! For all you studio types, be gentle, it's a work in progress! Here's the link: www.nwrstudio.com/devilcrmix.mp3
marvin
It finally hit me why I've never been overwhelmed by "Devil"! It's because it reminds me of Air Supply! In any case Mike, you've done a great job with the song. Are you the lead singer?Marvin
Kirk
I can't believe how much talent there is on this message board! Eric could put together a pretty good band just from the website! Nice interpretation of the song, Mike. Very true to the original while making it your own. Can't wait to hear the finished product. Keep on truckin'! Kirk. Raspbernie
Hey! Great job. Excellent choice of song (regardless of what Marvin says :-) Your voice has a little more rasp than Eric's. Taking the sweetness of the delivery made me think that one of those ballad-lovin' country dudes could probably strike gold with this tune. (Not that your interpretation is at all country-ish). It's just that your voice made me think that one of those Alan Jackson-type guys singing this song could actually get plenty of airplay somewhere.Bernie

yoyorex
great job MAM. It 's a good cover because it does change from the original. But I prefer Eric's version, sorry!(However , I can't wait to hear the full version!)

Too melodramatic, and the "Damned if I do, Damned if I don't" line actually had me cringing! LOL I just think Eric has better unreleased songs then this one...Jeff
blackhawkpat
Enjoyed the demo, too, and I hear where Bernie is coming from on the country angle. There are a number of Eric's songs that somebody should be pushing to other artists for air play, IMO.I don't hear the Air Supply in it, but I have always thought it was very similar to Lionel Richie's "Hello" when it comes to the chord structure. marvin
Especially when the chorus comes in, I can almost hear the lead singer of Air Supply (Russell Hitchcock?) singing this. Close your eyes and imagine along with me...Marvin
mymooladi
A real nice job on the song Mike. I still think that this song needs to be heard and I'm glad your doing that. I'm still hoping though,Eric puts it on his next album. Good luck with the song, I enjoyed it. June

(and I like Steinman's songs)
marvin
Jeff it definitely has that 'over-the-top' Steinman/Meat Loaf thing happening on it. In all honesty, I like the song a lot better today in its edited version, than I did a couple of years ago when I absolutely despised it.Marvin
aggiesjc
Jeff, I like Steinman songs, too, and it's an amazing coincidence that I'm listening to his "Bad For Good" CD as I just read your post. Have you heard that album? If so, what do you think of it? I recently bought it for "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through," a favorite song from my junior high school days. Jennifer Oh man, Jennifer,I LOVE that album! I still have never gotten around to replacing it on CD. I actually prefer the versions on that album to the ones Meatloaf did on "Bat Out of Hell II" That album brings back alot of fond memories for me, as I was just starting to date my wife back then , and we'd listen to it all the time! lolJeff
gordharris
Now I heard "Devil In The Deep Blue Sea"Wow not bad at all, I like it!You sound like, Michael McDonald, I like his music. Now, I would love to hear Erics version. Here's one, "Worm In The Long Tall Grass"Lol
aggiesjc
I prefer Steinman's own versions to the MeatLoaf versions, too. Have you ever heard of Pandora's Box? It's a girl group organized by Steinman, but with only one album, "Original Sin," from the late '80s, I think. Anyway, the song "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," which I was familiar with only as a Celine Dion song is on that album, before Celine recorded it. LostControl
i LOVE D7TDBS, both versions in fact. I have a hard time deciding which one I like better - I vary from day to day - one day it's the short version and one day it's the long. I think Eric could have a real comeback on the radio with this song - it sticks with you - you find yourself humming it sll day long. As a fan of Air Supply, I don't hear the similarity here - I can't see Russell singing this song, it needs Eric's deeper crooning voice - AS sings too high to make this song work.
