MAM
So ...... I tried an experiment for the last few months. I play in a trio that works at a local dining establishment on Friday evenings. We start off the first set with acoustic oriented stuff (JT, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.). From the 2nd set on, we do normal bar room stuff. We decided to throw D&TDBS into the mix every other week. The response is incredible. Massive applause, compliments, etc. Everyone asks "Who is that by?" and of course I tell them about our hero. No other song we do gets a response like that. Just thought y'all might be interested.
gordharris
MAM, I like Gordon lightfoot songs. That is a great response from your audience, keep on going and going, I'm happy for you.
aggiesjc
That's one of the worthiest bits of information ever posted - proof that the song is a crowd pleaser!

LostControl
Something Eric should definitely be aware of. If he knows that it gets a great response from people other than just us die-hard fans, then maybe he'll consider recording and releasing it. Are you sending any tips you receive to the "Eric Carmen New CD petty cash fund"? Every extra dollar counts!
mymooladi
I'm glad your playing it, this song needs to be heard. It is such a powerful, beautiful song. Hopefully Eric will record it someday for all to hear. Wouldn't it be great in the right movie? I could hear those first 4 notes throughout the movie in key spots. Tony Cartmill
It's almost unanimous here on the board about that song, except for a couple of grumpy Canadians. Mike, any strings on your live version or just piano? I guess not with just a trio...
MAM
Tony,Drums, keyboard bass & strings, piano. It sounds fairly full. It would be nice with a guitar in it though.
darlene
I adored that song from the first moment I heard it. I couldn't imagine anyone NOT doing so. And it's so different from everything else out there, I'm not surprised that people are very interested and want to know who wrote it. MAM, you sure validated my opinion! I'm glad you're playing it too! It is incredibly beautiful...Eric, are you listening? *DO* something with it! --Darlene
Julie
On Wednesday afternoon, I was listening to some Eric tunes on my computer in my office. Didn't know anyone was around. When "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" was about half over with, one of my co-workers stuck her head in my office and said, "Julie, that's a great song! What is it and who's singing it??" So, I told her. She thought it was awesome!Seems to be a common reaction to this song! WoooooooHoooooo!
DeanTylerVO
Finally got a chance to her Devil and Deep Blue Sea Demo..after a few listens, it has MAJOR LEAGUE MOVIE soundtrack written all over it for the next big love torn romance flick. The man sings like he's been there, and that has ALOT to do with Power Of this very special song.. Kirk
Mike--Way to go! Couple of other questions. Are you doing all the verses, or the shortened version? How about tempo? I picture it a little faster, live. Any harmonizing? Seems like it would be a natural for it. Thanks, Kirk.
MAM
We do the shortened version at the same tempo. The guys add some harmonies in the chorus, but actually I like it better without them.
Gregkevinw
nicely done mike. with what appears to be a vast catalog of unreleased eric, you could probably do an entire set of "gems". "it should've been me " could spark a reaction also.
Gregkevinw
forgot to mention what a great song "devil" is. right up there with "boats" imo.
The NH Bushman
forgot to mention what a great song "devil" is. right up there with "boats" imo. Where is it?
MAM
"It Should Have Been Me"? Hmmm .... gotta check my stash, not sure I have that one.
yoyorex
DATDBS is my favourite Eric Carmen song. I found it wonderul since the first time I heard it on that Christmas day (thanks Bernie). I'm sure this song has a great potential and could become a hit so I'm not surprised people like it.And maybe they don't ask about the other songs you play MAM, because they're famous while DATDBS is literally unknown. Thanks for making people discover this song! LobsterLvr
I'm ashamed of myself. I've only heard 'devil' once. If anyone knows where I can hear it again please drop me an email.Dave (lobsterlvr@aol.com)

MAM
Mr. Bushman sir ...I'm pretty sure that Eric talks about the tune in the "Ask Eric" section. That song affects me like no other I've ever heard.
marvin
Well Mike you hit the nail on the head. You said that you did a "shortened verion of the song." Well that's exactly what I've been preaching about for xxx years. The song as it stands, at least in the version I've heard, is way too long and needs major editing or re-working. With proper editing it could have enough commercial bite to be successful.Marvin
Tony Cartmill
Marvin, Have you not heard the shortened version with instruments that Bernie gave us X-mas before last? Or were you wasting time with your kids that day? Geeez Marv, get your priorities straight!
LostControl
You mean there's more than one version? Hey, anyone out there with the 'other version', can you e-mail me a copy? I've only ever heard the Christmas one.
