Where have you seen the Raspberries? The Raspberries played at my high school in 1973, James W. Robinson High School auditorium, Burke VA. They played with two other bands, I think Badfinger and Rare Earth, however, I am not sure, it was my first concert and I think that was who the other bands were. The Raspberries ROCKED!!!!

I first saw the Raspberries live on May 24, 1974 at Mason Consolidated High School in Erie,Michigan just north of Toledo. I had entered my Toledo high school (Central Catholic) in a contest sponsored by the CareFree Gum company. The winning school received $1000.00 and a concert by Rick Springfield and the Raspberries. My school did not win, but thanks to the great people at CKLW radio out of Detroit/Windsor, I was able to attend the concert as a guest of the station. I was backstage with the emcee, Pat Holiday, a popular DJ from CKLW and I met Eric, Wally, Dave and Jim. I talked to Rick Springfield, too, but I was too excited about the Berries to care about him. My friend and I sat with the Emcee next to the stage and when Eric threw his green velvet jacket to the side, I caught it and held it. The Raspberries were electrifying that night! Just incredible! (I guess it turned out alright. I was never sure how the Berries' GO ALL THE WAY would have gone over at my Catholic school with the priests and nuns!) I will never ever forget that night! No other concert I have ever seen by any other artist or band has compared. Gosh, I can still feel the excitement! wink Betsey

I saw The Berries approximately 12 times in Erie, PA. & once in Greenville, PA. The one show in Greenville was with McCarl & McBride. Although I enjoyed them, I really missed Dave & Jim. First time I saw them, John Alecsik (probably misspelled)was on bass. 2nd time, Eric was on bass & Dave was on guitar with really short hair. But, oh holy cow, did they sound GOOD! Place was PACKED.

I saw both batches of Raspberries and Eric in concert in several venues. I was thrilled and the show was phenomenal every time.

I remember walking alone at night through the subway in New York on the way home from a Raspberries concert at St. Johns University in Queens, scared to death, with all kinds of unsavory characters around, thinking, "I'm terrified, but it was so worth it that I'd do it again!" And it was...so worth it! smile --Darlene

First time- Coliseum or Disneyland? Think it was the Coliseum. LOTS of mega-stars. If memory serves me correctly the Raspberries came on after Chuck Berry. I think this was probably a memorable evening for the 'berries, also. Dave mentioned to me that he remembered looking over as they were getting ready to go out on stage and seeing Cher checking them out and thinking "cool"! Kirk.

Saw the Berries play twice at a place called PaPa's Dream in St Pete, the home of the live "bootleg" Florida Concert CD's. The two shows were towards the end of the Raspberries as a group, although the first,Dec 22, was a kick ass show. The second wasn't bad but it appeared they were just going through the motions. Wally and Scott really rocked good together.

Oh what I would pay for the orginal Brries and Scott to get together. Only heaven would be better !!!

The songwriters DO get royalties for airplay. It used to be 2-3/4c every time you had it played on the air, but it is more now. If the song makes the Top 10 in the U.S., this will amount to roughly $50,000 per week, based on all the plays from stations nationally.

On national network TV, it's $500 a pop(at least that's what it used to be---but probably more).

Paul Anka used to really rack in on the Tonight show, and at times when he didn't have any hits.

The theme show got played at the beginning and end of the show, so that is $5000 a week.

Then there is a thing called "mechanical royalties". That applies to records, tapes, CDs, videos, etc. Used to be 5c per unit sold; again probably more now.

Artists DO get way more than the standard mechanical rate.....however do not get any money for airplay....unless, of course, you are the writer, too.

Example, on "All By Myself" Celine does not get once cent for airplay but Eric will get performance royalties, being the songwriter. However, on CDs sold, Celine will get considerably more(being the artist), but Eric(and the writers of the other songs)will get the standard mechanical rate.

I've been browsing through some past topics today and found this one very interesting. So many of you were able to see the Raspberries/Eric perform ! It is great to read your stories.

I never did see the Raspberries, but i was able to catch Eric during the Dirty Dancing tour at Red Rocks in Denver. He was fantastic! His performance left me wanting to see more of HIM, the heck with the dancers...

It was fun, too, because it was his BIRTHDAY. We sent some balloons backstage for him and when he came out and told everyone that it was his birthday, the entire cast of singers and dancers joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to him.

I'm still a little envious of those of you who saw the Berries in the early days, but I do have fond memories of that concert. Let's all hope we haven't seen the last of Eric performing live !!!!
