JOSEPH WILLIAMS REPRISES BALLADS ROLE

Former Toto vocalist Joseph Williams has recorded a sequel to his Japanese-only ballads release of last year. Titled Tears, the new release mirrors the last release in that it is all covers. A few of the tracks featured on this release include covers of Procal Harem's "A Whiter Shade of Pale," Eric Carmen's "All By Myself," and James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely." The CD is released in Japan November 21.

PS: Did you know that besides being a member of the prog/rock/pop band Toto, Joseph is the son of famous composer John Williams?

I used to be a major fan of Toto, followed them through all their lead vocalist changes. I believe that Joseph was their 2nd lead singer after original singer Bobby Kimball left the band (Bobby's back now, by the way). In any case, Joseph has a great voice and I'm sure he'll do justice to the songs on this record.

That's pretty cool, and I wouldn't have made the connection with John Williams! Count me in as a Toto fan - I saw them twice last year, and they still sound fantastic! A lot of people like to discount them pretty fast, but the musicianship was always there - Just take a look at the liner notes from some of your favorite albums (Including Eric's solo efforts) and you will find members of Toto represented.

Steve Lukather and the Porcaro brothers (Mike, Steve and Jeff), along with David Paich and Joseph Williams, all came out of the same high school in L.A. The pedigree in this band is incredible. David's dad, Marty Paich, is a renowned orchestra leader, and everyone knows about Joseph's dad John Williams.

Jeff Porcaro, in my mind, still remains among the greatest drummers ever. Prior to Toto, as a teenager he was playing with Sonny & Cher, and then with Steely Dan.

I've often wondered just why singers don't use more of Eric's library... don't they realize that with a hit like ABM, both with EC and then Celine having stamped it with greatness that they will be harder pressed to "make it their own" than they would be with BOAC... or any of a number of ballads OR rockers that Eric has penned?
