Julie
I was sitting here, without much to look forward to (my boyfriend dumped me ) and then I remembered!!! The Book!! Something to LIVE for!! Cool!Anyway, this got me to thinking about Eric autographing our books. Is he practicing writing? Using any special hand lotions or creams? Having hand massages in anticipation of all of the cramping?? What kind of pen will he use (hopefully something acid free?) What color? Black, blue or something daring like, purple?? I know, I have waaaayyy too much time on my hands now! I'm just trying to picture him sitting there in the house with a sticky kid on each knee eating Oreos and a stack of our books on the coffee table trying to autograph them.....Hey Bernie, maybe you can post a pic of Eric actually signing a few books? (I'm a sentimental thing)---Julie
Raspbernie
Well, funny you should mention itÖand I was kinda keeping it under my hat as a surprise for laterÖbut I was planning on including a color photo of Eric autographing the books for everyone who ordered a limited edition hardcover as a special thank you for supporting the project. Hopefully, Eric will be up for it, and if he is you'll all get one along with your signed books.BerniePS: I will certainly do much homework on pens, etc. before deciding. I will make sure it's archival and cool, as well :-)
Julie
You are just the coolest, Bernie!!!---JuliePS--I just sent you a new pic for my profile, but I think it might have gone HUGE! Sorry!!!
gordharris
Julie, that is a really nice picture of you, is that digital, if so, how did you get the oval to go around you?Photo Suite 1, 2 Or 3 software?
Julie
Thanks Gord!Yes, it's digital. Taken with my Sony cybershot DSC-S76 with 3.3 megapixels and a Carl Zeiss lens. I use Microsoft Digital Image Professional 9 Suite software. Love it! I also have Adobe that I used to use all of the time---mainly because I really liked how you could adjust the color. But, this Digital Image Pro 9 is great! I had version 7 too but this one let's you do a lot more. The oval was created using "edge effects" and then I applied a soft edge. I have been doing a lot of photo restoration in the last couple of years with old family photos.Am now good enough that I am doing special projects for others. --Julie
gordharris
I was just searching for a song, Drivers Seat, bySNIFF N THE TEARS", I came accross the song, 'Hungry Eyes" on their list.Is that the song Eric sang? It's on HMV.COMI was trying to listen to a sample tune from the list and could not find it. aggiesjc
I'm glad Julie brought this up, but please, no sticky kids and Oreos anywhere near The Books! I will certainly be grateful for any autograph from Eric, but hope he finds a nice clean work area, and some peace and quiet as he signs! darlene
I'm sure Eric will be glad to get away from the kids and Oreos to sign the books. Signing that many is a project in itself; I'm sure he will want some peace and quiet. Maybe his new music room is finished, and then, after he signs, just maybe he'll sit down at his piano and...write some music?.... --D

The NH Bushman
I have a really large picture of me on my profile. It was taken in China, with Russia in the background. We were *very far* north (above North Korea and Vladivostok).

LostControl
As a former Archivist and genealogist (like Julie - who started this topic) we know the pain of finding old photos with names written on the back in ink so faded you can't decifer it, or worse, the acid in the ink has burned through the paper. So, it's my professional opinion that an archival quality acid-free permanent ink be used. My personal favorite (and the favorite of many artists I know for sketching) is the Pigma Micron. It comes in a number of colors - including black, sepia, green, red, blue, purple, etc., and a variety of widths. It's smudge & waterproof. so once Eric signs his name, it's there permanently (or until the page is ripped out or set aflame ).For the record - I don't have any affiliation with this product - and I will say that they do have some downfalls. They're on the expensive side (if you're lucky you can get them about $3.00 a pen on sale), and that they never seem to last long enough for my tastes. Any archival quality acid free pen will do, and you should probably have Eric try a few to see what ones he likes the best. You better really have an intimate relationship with your pen if you're going to sign your name that many times! Please, please, please, just don't let him sign with any old ball-point or felt-tipped pen! I'd hate to have a burn mark in my book where his name used to be 25 years from now! Us Archivists are really a pushy bunch aren't we! To be honest - I love my Pigma pen so much I use it for everything - my journals, photos, as well as address book, letters, etc. 100 years from now my great-grandchildren will be able to read letters I wrote because I had the forthought to use a decent pen. Unless I wrote in pencil, I wouldn't have the same results. It's too bad so much of history is lost due to poor quality paper, pens, etc. (Of course, this whole arguement will soon be null anyway, because everyone uses the Internet, and no one writes 'real' mail anymore!) The NH Bushman
Michael, I couldn't bring your picture up either.Jennifer Thanks Jennifer, I have fixed the problem now. That being said, only you can decide if you want to risk the possible emotional damage you may suffer if you do actually look at my photograph. I must say in writing that I can take no responsibility for the effect that my picture may have on you, now, or in the future.Good luck! <img border="0" alt="[blech!]" title="" src="graemlins/blech.gif" />

You can take the engineer out of the field, etc.Gord, here is one you might like: http://www.asiancastings.com/images/bushman.jpg The pic is low resolution though, sorry. Taken in 2000, this was a shot of me examining an ancient carving at a recently excavated fort in south Taiwan, in Tainan City. The wall in the background is made from natural materials such as oyster shell and glutenous rice, which explains the deterioration. I retired the Australian bush hat a few years ago when it wore out. I'm now wearing a New Zealand River Guide hat as my main bush hat these days (seen in the profile pic). The NH Bushman
It really is a great picture. Thanks for sharing. Thank you. I only regret the water on the lens that day. When I'm in front of the camera and not behind it, anything can happen!
