Who would be a good producer

I just watched the CBS story on Neil Diamond. His new album is getting rave reviews as he, at almost 65, apparently returns to his roots. Part of the success is given to Rick Rubin, his producer.

SO, I was wondering. Who would be a great producer for the first Raspberries studio album in 30 years? Heck, if Neil can do it, I know with the right producer the Raspberries can.

I never did like Neil's schmaltzy sound. I lost interest in Neil about the time he did Reverend Blue Jean. Or maybe it was Forever in Blue Jeans.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that he can still be considered relevant by going back to basic rock. Neil's success solidifies my belief the Berries can be just as relevant by doing what they do so well... just good, solid, palatable, rock and roll.

Isn't it funny how today in 2005. people now put Rush in the same catagory as Styx?

BTW, I am originally from the Roseland section (South side) of Chicago, the same neighborhood that Styx comes from. Roughly 115th. & Michigan Ave. I liked a few of their songs, but have never really been a fan. I guess it probably has to do with Panozzo's drumming. I was never impressed with his drumming. All I heard growing up was how wonderful Styx was and... oh, everyone that I know from back there has some kind of relation to Styx. You know, someone that someone that knows someone who is babysitting for Denis DeYoung, etc... I got tired of all the BS. Their music to me was always hokey, especially that Mr. Roboto stuff

Jeff Lynne , never. Hes ruined to many great songs with too much compression on accoustic guitars and vocals. You can rarely hear the bass guitar in a Jeff Lynne recording. He must have some issues with treble and high frequencies. His recordings end up having a very artificial feel. Like one notch short of ABBA. Harrison's "Brainwashed" was a masterpiece in spite of Lynne, and was based on the strength of the tunes and lyrical messages. But it could have been even better with a more "down to earth" recording.

Produced by "The Raspberries " is best. An executive producer might be a good idea for balance.

With the Raspberries' considerable vocal chops, I'd love to hear what Brian Wilson could do in the studio with them. (At the very least, we'd hear some interesting vocal arrangements). Tom Werman, who did wonders with Cheap Trick in the last 80's, could do a great job. Assuming he doesn't wind up in the jail the rest of his life, a Phil Spector wall of sound take on the 'Berries would also be interesting. Lastly, why not bring Jimmy Ienner back to do it?
