Lawyer fan
Sure would be nice to see Eric playing some dates again. I bet he would do quite nicely with so many30-50 year olds yearning for some old sounds. As Brian Wilson wrote on Pet Sounds - -"...maybe if we hope and wish and dream and pray it might come true..." JuliaD
I'd love to see Eric in concert again, I was fortunate enough to see him two nights in a row on the DD tour, and after the concert the one night, I was walking to my car and there was Eric in the back of the theater having a smoke, alone and helpless My first impulse was to rush over to him at breakneck speed, but I thought "the guy's just having a cigarette out here, and he's probably sick to death of being hounded by fans, leave him be"... and I kept on walking. One of the hardest decisions of my life, I assure you, I *really* wanted to go talk with him, and I looked pretty good that night, if I do say so myself. Oh well, Eric will never know what he missed
Tony Cartmill
JuliaD, At least you could have yelled to him, "Yo Eric! Big long time fan of you and your music!" He might have motioned you over for a private moment of appreciation, and a big stale tobacco tasting kiss!
Poor4Life
You should have gone up to him! I've found that if your discreet about it and don't go yelling out thier name and attracting a crowd, most musicians are pretty cool about it! darlene
JuliaD, You are the very essence of restraint! It may have been difficult to do, but I'm sure Eric will read this and appreciate it. (I don't mean appreciate your not approaching him, but appreciate your concern for his feelings.) You are a caring person. --Darlene
LostControl
JuliaD, You missed the opportunity to re-inact the "Tonight You're Mine" album cover photo? (OK, maybe only in your mind) I couldn't have done it - I would have had to go say "hi" (and a few other things). You're a much stronger woman than I can ever hope to be. The big question: Do you keep asking yourself "What if you HAD gone to talk to him?". I'd always wonder what would have happened if we had met, if I'd had the chance to actually do it.Michelle
darlene
I still hold out the hope that Eric will tour again when the whole enterprise is right for him.I keep the hope alive in my heart that he'll find the right promoter...I do believe it will happen. --Darlene

marvin
I'll put on my cynic hat: I think the chances of Eric touring are even slimmer than the chances of Eric releasing new material. Although if he did release new material, he'd then have a reason to tour and promote the material. If he did tour, it would be to open up for a bigger act. For this to happen, he'd have to foresake a great deal of pride and he'd also have to have a great deal of faith in his new material. At this stage of his life/career, I don't think that he'd be willing to take that step. So other than that, it's probably an ensemble show ala Ringo's All Stars. seattlesteve
Here's what I'd do. Low cost, small clubs. Ring Burton Cummings up and put together a double bill touring clubs (ala John-Joel), and have a couple of pianos waiting for you. Solo Burton, solo Eric, finish together (Marathon Man, Hey Deanie, etc.)Story telling about the songs in between.Let's test the concept at Seattle's eclectic EMP. I'll handle the marketing and we'll fill the joint and film it. Sell the video on this website, jump start both careers. Of course both will be introducing a new single.Eric, what do you say? You know how to reach me. ;-)Seattle Steve
Poor4Life
Brilliant idea! I love Burton!I still collect all his stuff (but like Eric there are long droughts between albums)
marvin
Burton's solo career has been on hiatus for awhile since he started back with the Guess Who.Marvin
Poor4Life
I know , I saw them in 2001 at the Rosemont theater 4th row. Randy Bachman was about 20 feet in front of us. They were awesome!
JCraft
I'd love to see Eric doing the small theater tour. Since he seems convinced he is strictly Adult Contemp. musically, then all of us over 40 people would come out to a small sit down, and acoustically perfect venure. I hope he brings the whole band though---I can make arraingments here in Jacksonville at the Florida Theater.Anything to helpJIM
Donmand
When will Eric tour again? This subject has been covered many times. When Eric was in the Raspberries they toured after every album. They did a lengthy tour before "Starting Over" was released. Beginning in the late Winter '73 (after Scott McCarl joined the group) and early into 1974. The band took time off the road to record "Starting Over" at the Record Plant in NYC (April 1974). They resumed touring most of the Summer (including a Fantastic Concert at the Brown County Fair in New Ulm, MN, on August 15th) and through the Fall of 1974. They also toured in early 1975 up through the break-up in April 1975. Eric has toured behind his first solo album. He opened some Concert's for the Brititsh band: SWEET in 1976. He also headlined some shows like at the Roxy Theatre in LA (December 1975). Carmen also opened for Hall and Oates right after "Boats against the Current" was released in 1977. Eric did "stiff us" as a NO show in Minneapolis during the Hall and Oates Tour. Here are the facts: Eric has NOT toured the US for 27 years (since 1977)! I'm not counting Dirty Dancing or Ringo's All Stars or a few gig with the Abbey Road group. He's mentioned many times in interviews; "He hates the road". So I believe; "He will Tour again; when Hell Freezes over twice"! Don

Randy
It snows in Houston every 10 years. We get the ground covered and it melts by 10 am. I suspect we'll get snow several more times before EC tours. He's welcome to do what he wants, I suppose. It's his life. With that said, he's a musician. That's how he got rich. That's why he married a beautiful woman... I hate to sound like a cynic, but he's not interested in making music anymore. I finally have given up on seeing a new cd or tour. I used to come to the site everyday here and for that I thank Bernie. Without the site, the Eric thing would not have gone on this long. But I'll be checking back once a month or even less now. There's just no new news to report, nor will there ever be. Thanks Eric.

Tony Cartmill
Eric seemed to enjoy the Ringo tour. And that was only 4 years ago.
aggiesjc
Yes, the Ringo tour wasn't that long ago. I never thought I'd see that day, but I did. I'm with Darlene on this - I think that SOMETHING new will come along from Eric one day not too far off. He's in a phase of life with two young children, and I'm sure they're his focus for now. marvin
How could Eric say no to the Ringo tour? It meant playing with one of his heroes (Ringo), along with established stars such as Jack Bruce, Dave Edmunds and Simon Kirke - and he'd be playing in front of thousands of people. It was either this or play in front of a couple of hundred people with the re-formed 'berries. The Ringo tour was a sure-thing. Eric won't go back on the road unless he's offered a similar proposition.Marvin
Poor4Life
What year did Eric tour with the Abbey Road Group? They played taste of Chicago a couple of years ago, but he wasn't part of it then.
Roonie
Eric stated in a Cleveland "Scene" magazine interview in 1977 that in the early band days he wanted his group to be like the Beatles. No wonder when asked by Ringo to tour he agreed. This may have brought his career full circle and to fruition? Obviously speculation on my part though makes sense. What are your thoughts? Thanks Roonie
Roonie
P.S. If Paul McCartney asked Eric to tour I'm sure he would! I'm afraid this is what it would take at this point in Eric's successful career to tour again.
seattlesteve
Keep in mind there is more involved than Eric simply saying yes or no to touring. The business side of music is not pretty. I'm sure he is not sitting in his den turning down some promoter who wants to put him in a 30 city basketball arena tour. If YOU were the promoter, and it was YOUR money on the line, what would you do? The economics would probably boil down to either Eric on a multiple bill tour, or doing clubs and/or casinos. Also it takes almost as much time to rehearse for a single show (like the HOF) as it does for a extended tour. If he puts together a band, they got a life too. Eric killed at the Hall of Fame show, and no one can deny by the end of it he was digging it too. I think a club tour would do wonders for his career, as well as be an enjoyable experience. No one is above the addictive allure of applause following a self-penned melody, while pouring your guts out. There is one caveat... for once, get a promotor who will actually promote. This best kept secret thing doesn't cut it.I still think one of his best albums ever has yet to see the light, but has already been written, yet remains unproduced... it lies within the vault of unreleased material. I'm OK with the exisiting legacy, but wouldn't a tour be cool? Come on Eric, most regrets in life are things you didn't do as opposed to did. What the heck, wouldn't it be fun even if you didn't make much?Hang in there man, do what makes sense, we'll back you either way..Seattle Steve
