MY DATE WITH DREW

Hi Folks!

The Documentary "My Date With Drew" came on Pay Per View this week and I watched it last night. Cute movie! It's about one man's quest to win a date with Drew Barrymore and all the trials and tribulations he goes through trying to make that happen. Just when all seems lost and our hero will never hook up with DB, guess what song comes blaring on the soundtrack? "All By Myself" of course, Eric version. It works beautifully in the film, you really feel sad for the guy.

This may be old news, but I hadn't heard about it and thought you guys might want to check it out.

OMG, Tunes!

I almost fell off my chair laughing about that! Maybe he should start a thread like that over in Community. But first he'd have to find women willing to admit they dated him. Then he'd have to get past Bernie with his escapades.

I'm still laughing, this was just too funny, Tunes hahahahahaha

Sorry to intrude on your post Brian, but that was funny.

Eric's song aside, I saw this flick last year, and didn't care for it for one fundamental reason....the guy who made it is SO annoying, in addition to essentially being one lazy-ass slacker/stalker. I'm also sure that the store (was it Best Buy or Circuit City or another? I can't remember) where he kept "buying" his video equipment, intending to take it back for a refund at the end of their 30 day guarantee period, really appreciates the film......

Looking at the big picture, EC and Raspberries are EVERYWHERE, and not just one song, either. In case you guys didn't realize it, it's been only a little bit over a year, and things are "popping," as Mar says. Relax, the universe and all things EC and Razz are unfolding as they should!

It's just that the Eric Carmen catalogue of great songs, except "ABM", is still sitting there gathering dust, when so many contemporary artists need quality songs to fill their next CD. Why is there is nobody in the biz designated to go around with their clip-on tie and breifcase full of EC CDs, knocking on doors and saying, "I have this classic song that would be a great addition to your project..."? There are at least 20 EC songs that are just as good, if not better than "ABM".

"All For Love" would be on several country pop CDs, if only Mr. Clip-on would take a trip to Nashville.

"The Way We Used To Be", "She Remembered" "Boats..." would be on every young crooner-wanna-be set list, if only Mr. Clip-on could get a EC CD to their producer/agent.

And every CD that the "American Idol" finalists put out should be exposed to the EC catalogue, before it is recorded...

But all we get is "All By Myself" ad-nauseum...

It's not about "shopping" as much as it's about "demand"-- Hardly anyone wants an Eric Carmen song that's "obscure"-- They want the classic... and as much as all of us don't need to hear it, many people want to cover it...

It's rare that an artist can write a song that strikes such a universal chord... As much as we love a lot of other songs in EC's solo catalog, there is not one song that can do what "All By Myself" does...

By the way: My "date" w/ Drew Barrymore happened by accident back on Feb 1st at Manitoba's in NYC... she just so happened to drop by. My good friend Mike Cimicata was DJ-ing (it's a monthly gig called "Neat Neat Neat") and I was there for support and some good beer. It took a little while for me to finally say something to Drew, but inevitably I did, and it was a nice down to earth conversation about her current hair color, kinda plum-brown-ish...

But if this generation's "Shaun Cassidy" can score a hit with a classic lesser known EC song, it will be more the artist's hit, and not just a cover of a previous hit song. And I'm telling you, these other EC songs are just as good as "ABM"(except for the long instrumental version). "ABM" had great timing and studio backing to go along with a powerful melody and lyric...You got to push push push to make lightning strike twice!

well, depending how good i could judge her character, she didn't come across like someone who would do such superficial things.. she was very down to earth and cool...

you're right about getting a younger singer to do a lesser known song and have a hit w/ it.... but since All By Myself has become this HUGE entity, it's gonna be done and done and done by almost every singer who wants to scale its heights.. it would be cool to see someone do "It Hurts Too Much" or "Hey Deanie" and make it a hit...

Could somebody PLEASE explain to me about Drew. I feel like somebody just told a great joke, everybody's laughing, and I don't understand the punchline.

JohnO, it was Circuit City and I was thinking the same thing. I don't think that's what they had in mind when they instituted the 30 day money back guarantee... But it's free advertising for them.

The thing I couldn't get over is how hairy the guy was. Literally. Think Godzilla with a hook nose...

I think Eric should put in a call to Clive Davis and get his ass in the studio and start recording. If that fossil Barry Manilow can score a number one album in 2006, then why not our guy?

Easy answer: Barry's hardly been out of the spotlight, despite not having hits (which has never been the "test" for aging pop singers)...

If you never stop touring (or in Barry's case, touring & releasing albums on a continual basis) you can stage a "comeback"...

all they did was follow Rod Stewart's lead which was a much weaker (albeit way more commercially successful) version of Bryan Ferry's "As Time Goes By" CD
