With stories of the bands they were in, too.

The lists of artists, in order are Thom York(Radiohead). And listed as a recent band to listen to with complex interactions of guitars, etc.

Sting. Drummer Stewart Copeland almost toured with The Doors reunion tour, awhile back.

Then, Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney(Quite phenomenal in his work), Michael Jackson, Lindsey Buckingham, Rob Thomas, Bryan Ferry, Susanna Hoffs, and David Lee Roth who will appear in California at Pala Casino on July 21st, where Ringo played this past month- www.PalaCasino.com

Can't say I cared much for the actual article; highly opionated. BTW, Copeland DID do some gigs with The 21st Century Doors but was replaced after breaking his arm.

Can't agree with some of the info in that article, either. Lindsey Buckingham's solo work does not "suck"!

They actually say there that much of Lindsey B's solo work is excellent, but it just didn't connect with the public, like his F. Mac work did...so how that "sucks", one would wonder.....

The article is interesting, but my God, there are dozens and dozens of lead singers who've gone solo over the years, and they just focus on a very select handful....

He also says Buckingham first struck out on his own in 1985 with Go Insane. Seems to me I have an album from '81 of his called "Law and Order" that featured the hit "Trouble"...

Personally, some of the stuff on "Go Insane" was interesting/good. Actually, a lot of Buckingham's solo songs are....dare I say it!.....

more enjoyable than SOME of the "Tusk"/"Rumors" tracks.

Kenny Rodgers traded up. Did well with the First Edition, but even better solo. Ditto for Ted Nugent, when he left the Amboy Dukes.

Lionel Richie did a bit better solo, than with his former band, the Commodores. Now both, which once were considered regulars on hit radio, have all but disappered.

Gwen Stefani was great with No Doubt, but her solo stuff sounds contrived and manufactured.

Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Frankie Valli, Peter Hook, Eddie

Kendricks, Smokey Robinson, Donny Osmond, Larry Gatlin, Ian Hunter, Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty, Paul Simon and Syd Barrett put out music of equal quality with their respective groups and solo, for the most part.

Peter Cetera had a good start after leaving Chicago, but had got into a ballads rut. (Yeah, the same guy that sang lead on "25 or 6 to 4")

Robert Plant's musical career turned out to be a bit uneven.

David Byrne's post-Heads work doesn't grab me at all. And didn't sell well, either. (But "Rolling Stone" of course, raved over it.) Rick Ocasek's solo stuff is not that great either. Nigel Olsson's solo fell flat after leaving Elton John's band, and eventually came back.

Duncan Faure, of the Bay City Rollers, had done well as a film music composer. Go figure. And Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five did music for commercials, as well as films.

Don Henley (Eagles) is true, but also Glenn Frey & Randy Meisner had moderate success away from the band and Timothy B. Schmidt & Joe Walsh too but before they joined.

I think you might add one Michael Jackson to the list of those who did better away from their group.

And George Michael (speaking of freaks ) did better without his partner in WHAM.

David Gates did worse without Bread and Michael Nesmith had fewer hits but was more prolific without The Monkees.

Dan Peek left America to pursue "Christian Contemporary" and scored some hits in that genre, for what it was worth.

Dan Seals probably did as well on the country charts as he did with John Ford Coley as England Dan & John Ford Coley

Might be that Michael McDonald did slightly less as a solo artist than with the Doobie Brothers.

That's alot of solo artists. And, Lionel Richie is working on another album. Surprise! He's finally going to get something together. I wonder which record label he and his agent will go with. A tour is possible, next year.

Lionel Richie's album, "Coming Home" is already out. Someone told me last night that his solo song, "I Call It Love" is playing on the radio. I went to his website to find out what was going on. The record label is Island Records, which also carries Bon Jovi and Mariah Carey at www.IslandRecords.com Starting to get played on the radio, his new song was 88th on Hot 100 songs, and 26th(Aug. 11th) from 30th(Aug. 10th) on the R&B/Hip Hop charts, according to his message board.
