Change of Heart or just Change of tempo?

Recommended Posts

Are there any EC songs that would have benefited from a change of tempo…?…It’s hard to re-wire your brain after hearing a tune the same way for years, but think how cool I Wanna Be With You sounded on VH-1(all slowed down?…Remember when you heard the super slowed down version of Let’s Pretend on Don Kirschner’s?…

Well, is there any other EC song that may have benefited from a different tempo?…

Actually, Eric wrote Change of Heart in a different tempo originally.

Oh, and the 'ballad' version of I Wanna Be With You times out exactly the same as the recorded version...go figure!

I think Eric's version of Hey Deanie drags a little...

I think I figured out that timing conundrum...Unlike the original, the ballad version omits repeating the full chorus at the end.

Well, of course I'd say "Let's Pretend," because we actually got to hear it as a slow ballad, per a 1970s TV appearance. Along the same line, we got to hear "I Wanna Be with You" as a ballad on Raspberries' VH1 performance. I love it almost as much as the high-octane original. In fact, I think I do. If not more so.

And... when Raspberries were doing that little reunion tour, at the Oct. 13, 2007 soundcheck they played "Go All the Way" as a deliberate and sweet ballad — and I loved it. Wish I could find a bootleg of that version — it was really something.

Besides those examples, wouldn't "Nowhere to Hide" be interesting as an uptempo rock number? Sung with fiery anger instead of hopeless depression?

Do you mean this rendition, buried deep within the bowels of the forum?

Holy smokes RCT.... What a great bump! This is like a Christmas present from Bernie. (well it was initially a present from Bernie...so thanks Bernie). I can't believe I haven't found this treasure yet. Like others who commented in the thread, I always wondered how GATW sounds with Eric playing it on the piano. As we know, he writes all his songs on the piano, so yes this is a gem and LC, it is very magical, especially hearing it the first time. And hearing those harmonies so clear without the guitar accompaniment.  Thanks RCT.

Even though Eric is a perfectionist, it's fun to hear him clown around a little with the lyrics during the soundcheck. Another time, Eric asked them to run through " I Can Dismember" LOL!

I had to laugh because there was a thread on the message board where some of us were having fun with Eric's lyrics and I did a song, "She Dismembered". You don't think Eric read my twisted take on his masterpiece? Oh yeah...

It took a while but I've read almost every thread here and have a bit of a knack for remembering them. I recalled enough about this one to use "hold my clothes" as the search term and it worked immediately. When I first read it a couple years ago I was shocked that Bernie still had the audio file up since 2007!

But, if I may be permitted to go slightly off-topic, I've been going nuts trying to find a certain thread and have thus far been unsuccessful. Actually, it may not have been a forum thread. I cannot recall exactly where I read it, but it was some kind of interview that either Bernie or Ken Sharp did with a woman who worked for either Capitol or CAM or Jimmy Ienner, and was helping out the band early in their career. She recalled taking them out shopping for stage gear, and talking Eric out of buying a jumpsuit-type outfit (only she called it something else, like a disco suit or Euro suit or parachute suit or something, but I believe it was an alternate term for jumpsuit). The recent jumpsuit discussion in the thread about Bottom Line pics jogged my memory of the story, but I'm having a heck of a time locating the source material, so if anyone can help a gal out, I'd be grateful!
