Eric-Barry-Rach

Recommended Posts

Have we discussed this before? Eric and Barry Manilow both acknowledge classical music as influences. Eric nicked Rachmaninoff a few times, the chorus of NGFILA being one of them. When Barry wrote "If I Should Love Again", was he nicking Rachmaninoff or Eric? There's even a couple of words that Barry uses in the exact same place in the chorus of IISLA. Hmmm...

I totally agree Kirk and it's more than a coincidence. I hear this chord progression so often in songs.  The fact that he sings those words "love again" and "someone new"  in the same exact spots as NGFILA is a definite steal from Eric. I am sure that did not go unnoticed, since Eric and  Barry were Arista label mates.

Well, if Barry nicks one of your songs, you know your song was a damn good one!

I hadn't heard this one before. It also has that mellotron solo sound (it sounds like a combination of flute and horn to me) that both of them utilized in some of their music of the mid to late 70s.

I didn't care for the two dead stops or the little string thing before the piano solo begins, but overall I really liked the song.
