Dance Craze

Recommended Posts

In the late 1950's and early 1960's, there seemed to be a new dance craze every month along with a record or two to profit from it.

We had Strollin', the Twist, the Bristol Stomp, the Peppermint Twist, the Watusi and more.

Can you name a famous failed dance craze from 1965 which was promoted on a record by two icons of the Blues, Junior Wells & guitar legend, Buddy Guy.

No peeking!

A bit of trivia in this dance craze quiz.

I'm sure all of you have heard the Peppermint Twist by Joey Dee and the Starlighters.

This band was one of the early successful racially integrated pop/rock bands.

They became the house band for the Peppermint Lounge located as the song says, on 45th Street in NYC.

Celebrities and royalty twisted the night away to the band's music, and the line to enter the club stretched for blocks.

Over the course of the Starlighters' run, the band featured musicians such as future Rascals Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati & his brother David Brigati.

Other sometime Starlighters were Jimi Hendrix and Joe Pesci.

And what could be the inspiration for the name of the house band of the Peppermint Lounge???

The humble Starlight peppermint.

This was an obscure one.

Heard about it on my favorite jazz station, and they were trying to locate video of the minor dance craze called the Stomach Ache that grew from this song in the 60's.
