If These Walls Could Sing

Not sure if anyone here has the Disney+ app, I’m sure you could get a free trial if you don’t and it would be well worth it to watch the show I’m going to talk about, plus “Get Back” and the Elton John live at dodger Stadium concert. I subscribe to it for when my grandson Lennon visits, but I am finding I am watching it more and more myself!

Tonight, I watched a documentary on the 90 year history of Abbey Road, hosted by Paul McCartney‘s daughter Mary. I thought it was phenomenal. You won’t learn anything new that you don’t already know, although I was blown away by a cellist by the name of Jacqueline du pre’ (i’m sure some of you classical fans already are aware of her, but she somehow has escaped me) that I will be raiding  discogs.com tomorrow to find some of her music.

interviews include Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, members of Pink Floyd, oasis, Jimmy page, Giles Martin, John Williams and more.

I did love one line in there by British singer Kate Bush who said she was told they “were afraid to paint the walls of the studio for fear it would affect the sound”!!!!

If you are a fan of great music, and especially the Beatles, this is something you won’t want to miss!

Jacqueline du Pré was a fabulous cellist who's life and career were cut short by multiple sclerosis.

She was married to conductor Daniel Barenboim.

A 1998 film, Jackie and Hilary, depicts the lives of du Pré and her sister, but the accuracy of the film has been challenged by family members.

Du Pré's life has also been the subject for both a ballet and an opera.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing this for a while. Thanks for the heads-up, Blackhawk Pat.

Thanks for the background on Jacqueline du Pré, Susie. I was just talking to Pat on the phone and he raved about her place in this documentary. Looking forward to seeing it!

Susie: Any recommendations on her albums?

Pat,

All of her recordings are pretty magnificent.  If there is a particular composer who's work you like, I would recommend starting there to hear her interpretation of those works.

My personal favorite is  Cello Concerto / Cello Encores - Bach, Saint-Saëns, Falla, Bruch.

Impressions is a great album, too.

Not a bad one in the bunch.

A good number of compilations have been released since her death, and I understand that there is a complete CD collection of all of her recordings.

I prefer vinyl and am continuing to rebuild my post fire vinyl library.

Here is a taste of a very young Jacqueline performing a piece by my beloved Saint-Saëns.

I also love her interpretation of Elgar.

There is a great FB JdP group.

Check my FB page, and you can find the link.  If you need an invite to the group, let me know.

🎻❤️

Thanks Susie! I knew you would cone up with some killer recommendations!
