Santa Bernie?

Thank you Bernie.

The Bandstand interview was cool — I think I've heard it before but can't be sure. Dick Clark was digging that Rollswagon! Of course, after they finished the interview, the boys went right into "Let's Pretend," and we got a snippet of that. I wish the video for that performance was readily available. Haven't seen it on YouTube.

Also... that "Last Night" 1975 live reading: Pretty cool. That song gets overshadowed by all the hits on Eric's first solo album, but it's very solid. The bridge is cool — so much drama laid on a pretty innocuous act: "I walked across the street to the drugstore and I bought a magazine / Then I came back home and read it throooouuugghhh." I always got a kick out of that. I love the way that song ends on the album; in this live version, I noticed that after the a cappella bit (which closes the song on record), the band kicks back into the chorus.

Also... my favorite find of the day (on the copyright line—slick click, Santa!) was the live version of "On the Beach." Whew. We got one of my top three favorite Raspberries songs of all time in a fittingly urgent, almost frantic live performance with lots of treble and grunge and noise. Good one, Bernie! No, great one!

I'd say this was the best package of Santa treats ever. Between the things noted above and the "Run Away" demo and "Wild Heart" (which I forgot, per an interview, was originally written for a Disney Movie called The Journey of Natty Gang) and "Run Away," lots of rarities to enjoy.

Santa, you should post more often. You don't have to bring gifts, but pop in every now and then just to kibitz. We need the traffic. See you in the spring?

As Matt noted above, this episode of American Bandstand no longer exists due to a fire at the facility that housed their master videotapes. The existing audio comes from a viewer who recorded the show on a portable tape recorder.

BUT they dislike the other John Cusack movie "Better Off Dead" (which also starred Diane Franklin) "Two Thumbs Down". In that movie, the cartoons were drawn by "Savage" Steve Holland (when the Van Halen 1980 song "Everybody Wants Some" while John is sleepy at the job doing hamburgers) who drew the "Whammy" for the CBS daytime  game show "Press Your Luck" with the late host Peter Tomarken (who died in a plane crash with his wife in late January of 2006).
