blackhawkpat
Had a bit of a tiff with a former board member, who shall remain nameless, about how often we listen to the band. I can honestly say that since 1972, there has not been one week I have not either listened to at least one recording of the band or at the very minimum play some songs on the piano by them. There’s definitely days I haven’t listened to them, but weeks? Never. Not even close. it’s not like I sit there and go OK it’s Tuesday, time to play Raspberries, I just love listening to them. He claims I’m short changing myself by not expanding my horizons of listening to more broader music, but to me, the best is the best and I never get tired of their songs. So I ask you, how often do you listen to Raspberries?
LC
Um, am I the “nameless” one? Oh wait, I couldn’t be, because I’m not a “former“ board member. Plus, I’m not one who would be urging you to expand your musical horizons. In fact, I’m going the opposite direction. As I’ve noted here in a post or two, I don’t spin Raspberries music anywhere near what I used to. It’s not that I dislike it… I just have other preferences. Because you’re making me think about it now, I can say there are probably two reasons: 1) Because Raspberries and EC have such a small catalog. 2) Because I became so engrossed in a deep dive into John Stewart’s music. His rich and deep catalog numbers over 600 songs on 50+ albums. It’s music that really speaks to me. It’s intelligent, poetic, spiritual, uplifting, thought-provoking, melodic, lyrical, haunting, wide-ranging, and, quite simply, beautiful. (In February, Rhonda asked me to share my favorite JS songs, because she saw a comment where I estimated that about 90% of what I listen to is John Stewart. Eight months later, I’m still sending songs — we’re up to 125, which shocks even me, because the quality level has been so consistent the whole way. Craig or James asked me to post my John Stewart rankings a while back, and I promise I will do that soon. I don’t know how I will keep it under 50! All that said, I do occasionally take a break from John Stewart. And when I do, it’s almost always a Beatles, Raspberries, Fleetwood Mac, ELO, Elton, or World Party playlist I have on. Or some Baroque music.
James
Stick to your guns Pat,....also it's crazy what - in 2022 and the social media age - people will criticize you about. It's almost a sickness. Who needs a wife to harangue you when you have the internet !!! ( I'm joking, ladies ). I personally don't listen often to the Raspberries as I think I'm still a little hungover from overplaying them back in the day. But inspired by my listen to Geffen and TYM yesterday, and by Pat's post, I'm going to start listening to Eric/Raspberries a bunch more in the upcoming weeks. PS LC, based on your strong evangelization of John Stewart, I need to try out his music. I want to buy 2 cds of his, which 2 should I buy? PPS I find myself these days exploring / learning a lot of music I have not been familiar with ( much of it from back in the day )....but at the same time listening even more to stuff / hits I love and that I feel close to.
Kirk
Pat, I don't think you are in the minority, here. I listen to Eric/'berries every day unless I'm in a coma. It's not that I have to listen to them, but I'm always on Youtube or some other lead looking for anything new that might be interesting to the members here. It's inherent in my searches that I will listen to their music some every day. I take joy in being able to find something that nobody has posted before:) It might be time to re-visit my "Eric, how bad have you got it" thread...

The quiz consists of four scenarios, with 3 possible answers to each. Give yourself 1 point for 'A', 2 points for 'B' and 3 points for 'C'. Ready? In the morning: A- You turn on the computer after your coffee to check the message board. B- You turn on the computer before your coffee so you can check the message board while drinking your coffee. C- If you're short on time in the morning, you skip the coffee so you can check in on the message board. Daily: A- You check the message board at least once a day. B- You check in so often you're looking over your shoulder to see if your spouse is watching. C- You leave your spouse waiting in bed so you can check in 'just one more time' before turning in for the night. If you miss a day on the message board: A- You wonder what you have been missing while you were away. B- You not only wonder what you've been missing, but wonder if anybody missed you. C- You develop facial tics. If you have to be away: A- You can't wait to get home and check in on the message board. B- You check it while on vacation. C- You search for 'hot spots' if there is no internet available. Scoring: 5 or less- Life is still fairly normal 6 to 8- Friends and family are starting to wonder. 9 or more- You are as addicted to EC.com as I am! So, how'd you do? RCT
A few times a month. I guess that can translate to once a week or so, though it's not like I'm on a schedule. Just when the mood strikes. Not only do I not seem to ever get tired of it, I’m still noticing details that hadn’t previously emerged. Comparing and contrasting the subtle nuances in trills, frills, and ad-libs (and the occasional lyrical flub or bum note) among various live versions brings me so much delight I can hardly stand it. The boots are a finite resource of course, but I haven't tracked them all down yet, so there's something to look forward to. But it's not all Razz all the time with me. I don't feel like they take any valuable attention away from the myriad of other bands and music genres I dig.
