Discovering ericcarmen.com

One year ago today,  October  3, 2021, I discovered ericcarmen.com.  The world was in covid lockdown and I was in quite a funk... like the rest of the world.  It literally got me  back to my happy place of creating and discovering music again.  So voila here we are a year later.  This might sound a little over the top but in my case it almost changed my life. It literally got me through covid lockdown and it's still providing me with lots of reading and entertainment.  I was doing a little bit of creeping initially and didn't put on my first post until Nov. 23, 2021.  Here is part of my first post:

"Eric Carmen's music has been a part of my life since I was a young teenager struggling with the gift of music and my own music career and not knowing how to express it... what to do with continuous music  that filled my head since I was 5."

Thank you to all of my new friends and like-minded  Music Freaks here on the site.

And of course BIGGEST THANK YOU to Bernie for getting this all  started and his continued devotion. I hope to be able to continue reading and posting  on this site every day for many years to come.❤

Rhinda, you are (real) cool beans, and the site is very fortunate to have gained such a high quality member in you.

P.S....and we have learned geography from you, ie: there is actually at least one person in Saskatchewan!!....who´d have thunk it !!  ; )

Rhonda, you, and a couple of the other ladies who recently joined, were a real shot in the arm for this website. Thank you!

On a side note, spoonerisms seem to run in my family. My wife referred to some friends of ours as 'Lick and Rinda' LOL!

Rhonda - amazing in many ways that your joining this forum is similar to mine. I found EC first on Twitter during 2020 ("Is this the REAL Eric Carmen?" I asked myself. Yes it was, much to my ever-loving surprise! And while I don't typically linger on Twitter for more than a few minutes, I made it a point to search out his posts on a daily basis because it was darn interesting stuff! I was pretty devastated when he dropped off of social media, to be bluntly honest.) Then I started really deep-dive digging around YouTube during the Covid lockdown to find ***everything EC*** (in great admiration and appreciation for his Mozart-like hair style iterations amongst other things! And I do say this seriously because it's indication of how he cared about his performer "image").

Thus, I reminded myself of just how GREAT his songwriting was, then I grew totally (dare I say?) truly **re-enamored** of his singing and pianist skills, having loved "All By Myself" way back in the day when it first hit the airwaves as a complete departure from the usual Top 40 musical pablum (or "drivel" as my music compositional husband would say! Hahahaha!). Who knew *that song* would, over time, grow to be THAT big and enter into the "unforgettable song(s) of our lifetime" category?

And you're exactly right, Rhonda. When all is said and done, it's listening to this music (both EC and Raspberries) that continually and consistently puts a smile on my face even though I'm a pretty widely experienced musician - I admire great movie score music like Mancini, John Williams, I've performed either in the cast of or in the orchestra for the American musical theater favorites like "My Fair Lady", Rodgers & Hammerstein; I've performed 100's of classic choral literature selections (Randall Thompson, Peter Lutkin, Lloyd Pfautsch come to mind). And I have in-depth knowledge of music in most all genres and centuries (yes - CENTURIES - I studied Music History in college as a minor so the "oldies" to me means Gesualdo, Thomas Tallis, Palestrina, etc. out of the 16th century 😉 ). And every day, I listen to and research songs mostly in the "American Songbook" because our music publishing company represents 6 arranger/composers doing choral/a cappella/barbershop arrangements of songs MOSTLY of the 20th century, and I'm THE copyrights/licensing mgr. for our company which has a world-wide reach for ensembles coming to us for music for their repertoire needs.

But .... it's EC I listen to in my car on the way to and from my music rehearsals on the other side of town (1/2 hour drive each way to / from home) to warm up to with my own singing voice (ex. "Change of Heart" is REALLY good for practicing accuracy in downward interval jumps! 🙂 and his original-range "Let's Pretend" is perfect for me to warm up my own middle register). When I'm stressed about regular life stuff going on with my family (and there's a lot more to that right now than I'm willing to share on public media), EC/Raspberries has become my "go to" tunes with their amazing melodies and harmonizations/lush chord choices for instant "music therapy" that brings a calm over me within seconds. And I'm NOT kidding at all about that!

Helen, you are indeed one of the ladies I was referring to when complimenting Rhonda above. You bring different, but no less compelling, insights to this site. Thank you!

It struck me when you mentioned Let's Pretend as a warm-up for your MIDDLE register. A true soprano you are!
