Kirk
I could fill this list with just Disney theme songs. Beauty and the Beast might be my favorite, but this one would be a close second:
James
I always could take or leave that song, Kirk, but having listened to your link and listening to the song within the perspective of a moving film story, ...it is pretty great. Also I never knew Linda R. was the female of the singing tandem till now, ...and having looked up the song just now, I see it was co-written by James Horner - the guy who wrote the Titanic score - along with Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil.....with those 3 genius writers on one song, you can´t go wrong! "Somewhere over the rainbow" on Bernie´s list is a major ommission from my list. It should have been on there. And now I need to go listen to the others on Bernie´s list I am not familiar with. P.S. I could include all of the "Sound of Music" on my list, easily. I may post a 2nd list as there are so many great ones. You guys?
Raspbernie
“Feed the Birds,” written by the Sherman Brothers was Walt Disney’s favorite song. When he heard it for the first time, he turned to the songwriters and said, “That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?” He would periodically call the Shermans to his apartment atop the Disneyland firehouse, ask them to “Play it,” then look out the window at people passing by. 1
Kirk
I don't even remember that song from Mary Poppins. I guess the decades will do that to you...
susie b
Some great tunes listed here! As I child I had the Disney MP soundtrack on good ol' vinyl. Always loved the melancholy of Feed the Birds. It is a great soundtrack as are many of the mid-century Disney works.
susie b
Cabaret is once again a timely film as it documents the rise of the Nazis. Based on I Am A Camera, every song is a masterpiece as the soundtrack parallels the day to day lives of Sally and her friends. Mein Herr is a Bob Fosse choreographed showstopper, and Liza is brilliant. Joel Grey in his signature roll of the Master of Ceremonies is key to the film. If you've never seen this film, current world events create a ripe environment to revisit this 1972 classic.
Craig Benfer
I bet you there aren't too many songs that would be considered for this list that come from a made-for-tv movie, but the instrumental version of The Hands Of Time from Brian's Song is a song that still moves me when I hear it.
susie b
The Beatles are brilliant in this cinematic New Wave masterpiece, and the title song is a favorite.
susie b
Flatt & Scruggs' Foggy Mountain Breakdown became a favorite in Arthur Penn's groundbreaking 1967 classic, Bonnie and Clyde.

Lew Bundles
Only the Street Where You Live by Lerner And Loew and just about anything from Rogers/Hart/Hammerstein especially the stuff from the tv production of Cinderella from the 60’s… and of course, as a late entry City Of Stars from La La Land.

Matthew C. Clark
Before the TV series "Alias" with Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber played the clown in the 1973 musical movie "Godspell". The song "Alas For You" almost reminds me of Cheech And Chong 1974 song "Earache My Eye" when the singer Alice Bowie is saying "Watch me burn, you fools" (ha, ha, ha, ha) (I said turn that thing down & get ready for school)
Michelle
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" always. It was performed as my son's casket was being wheeled out of our church....forever in my heart.

A couple of my favorites as well. Freddy was a dreamboat! Stuart Damon was THE perfect prince. He went on to be a soap opera star on General Hospital. Handsome and a gorgeous voice!

susie b
Many American standards such as this one were written specifically for Fred Astaire. Composers such as Gershwin, Berlin, Mercer, Porter and Kern LOVED writing for Fred as his phrasing & delivery were greatly influenced by his dance, AND since he was mainly a dancer and not a singer, he stuck to the melody & lyrics as written.
