Good to hear his health has rebounded. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10837695/amp/Elton-John-reveals-hes-returning-Farewell-Yellow-Brick-Road-Tour-break-home.html
Rhonda B
Yes he's looking great, definitely has shed some pounds. So glad I got to see him in Saskatoon before lockdown.
Michelle
Elton is such a great showman. Saw him at the Cleveland Collasium in the mid 1970's along with KiKi Dee. Awesome show.
LC
The mere mention of KiKi Dee inspired me to go back look at this video, which I haven't seen in probably two decades or more. I loved hearing this song on the radio all the time in the mid-1970s. Kiki was an adorable figure in this vid. (Who knew her real name was Pauline Matthews?)
James
That song isn´t the type of song I worshipped Elton for, but like you LC, I love the song and never really got sick of it even though it played constantly in 1976...summer if I recall. Love hearing it to this day.
Kirk
I saw Elton on this tour at The Forum and Kiki Dee opened for him.
Rhonda B
At the end of his Yellow Brick Road Show in Saskatoon, when they left the stage after a couple of encores, they played that song over the sound system.
James
Talking about Kiki Dee and Elton, this one was released in 1973 and Elton co-produced the album version. Gary Osbourne - the guy who took on lyric writing for Elton when Bernie broke away - wrote the English lyrics, probably translated them....the lyrics are also phenomenal. This song was written by Veronique Sanson (in French) and she performed the original. I bought some of her music based on the greatness of this song. Hard to beat her original. But Kiki did a nice job here, ...Olivia Newton-John also did a great version, as did Helen Reddy under a different title. This song - at least Veronique´s version - has the potential to be one of the greatest songs of the century, it´s that great:
Kirk
Good song! I was immediately struck at the similarity to this song:
LC
I was immediately struck by that artistic album cover on Hasten Down the Wind. Nice song, Kirk. Back to Kiki for a minute.... Here's a live version of "Don't Go..." done 25 years after the original:
LC
Another live version (2009) I never saw until now. Love this... such buoyant energy. Davey Johnstone is having a ball.
James
Re: Linda´s "Someone to lay down....", it was written by Karla Bonoff who did a nice version also. I stated to Vinnie in a thread recently that PPPM was my fave of Linda´s back in the day, but STLDBM is right there with it. P.S. I always assumed on the album cover of "Hasten down the wind" (which I viewed whenever I got a chance back in the day).....that given Linda´s reprise of Jacqueline Bisset in "The Deep" , she must have been thinking of me. Could there be any other explanation? I didn´t think so. : )
