Carlos
Hello. I'm new. I'm in my 20s and when I was shown the music of the Raspberries, I was immediately hooked, cuz what got me into music was the 60s, and I approved of a lot of that British Invasion stuff, but mostly stuff with energy. Hehe I understand everyone's time is limited. I'd have so many questions for Mr. Carmen. I also admired his solo career very much. I love creative spirits. Of course, I'm sure I'd fit right at home in this community of like-minded people, because music lovers connect, and musicians moreso. I'm sure there are many musicians in this community with obviously similar tastes.

Hello. Thank you sir. I think I met someone online who was much older than myself. He showed me their stuff. He knew my taste in music so that's how. The way I got exposed to older music in general was when I was about 9 or 10. I had a 4th grade teacher that passed out lyric sheets and we'd sing whatever he played on his CD player. My dad had an American Bandstand 50s through 90s decade set. My grandmother gave me a best compilation of the Beatles and Beach Boys. So that's what started it all.
LC
Welcome, Carlos. Hope you have fun hanging around and posting. You know, that story you told in response to Lew's excellent question is pretty cool. I was just telling one of our other posters that when I was in 4th grade—yes, 4th grade—my teacher did the exact same thing. I still remember his name: Mr. Wilson. And because it was decades before you were in 4th grade, the lyric sheet I remember him passing out was (this will date me) the Beatles' "Hey Jude." Yep, he plopped the vinyl record on his classroom turntable and had his little 4th graders sing along to what turned out to be an all-time classic. I still rank "Hey Jude" as my favorite song of all time... or at least tied with "The Long and Winding Road." Not terribly far behind (for those who like to dig into more obscure numbers) is "China Skies" by John Stewart and then Eric's "Boats Against the Current" and Raspberries "Overnight Sensation."
Helen G
Welcome to this site, Carlo! I'm the 4th child in a very musical family; besides learning piano, a band instrument and singing in choirs or choruses all my life, we were taught at home to recognize great melody lines and harmonization (chord structure). I learned about the form of songs later on in my music studies. So when a musician like Eric Carmen comes along, it was easy for me to fall in love with his songwriting genius much less all his great skills as a singer, pianist and guitar player. So yes, you're among musician friends here for sure!
