Momof2setsoftwins
Still don't see it. Agreed, looks more like Mick, and Keith...not so much Eric, some resemblance to Steven Tylers bottom lip....before his plastic surgery. susie b
Got to get Pretender in here. He is our resident Waterboys expert!!!
pretender
Never really thought of Mike looking like Eric. Maybe in the early days with the hair. Definitely not much musical similarity, although they're two of my absolute favorites
LC
Doppelgänger debating aside, thank you for posting this, Dave! Love the vibe of this song. I backtracked into Waterboys via World Party. I hadn't seen this vid in years, though, so it was cool to see Karl Wallinger playing keyboards. Karl first surfaced as musical director for Rocky Horror Picture Show, then joined up with the Waterboys. After working on a couple of their albums, he went off and created World Party, his (essentially) one-man band. He made some truly powerful records, including Goodbye Jumbo, Bang!, Egyptology, and Dumbing Up (all between 1990 and 2000). We have a thread somewhere on here about World Party.
Raspbernie
Don't know about the dude's looks, but I really like this performance! Bernie
pretender
Mike and Karl had a disagreement over songwriting credit on this with Karl believing he should have gotten credit for writing the keyboard part. Sound familiar?
LC
I didn't know that, Pretender. I should dive more into Waterboys records. I was just reading this line at Wiki about Mike Scott: "Scott emphasises a continuity between The Waterboys and his solo work, saying that "To me there's no difference between Mike Scott and the Waterboys; they both mean the same thing. They mean myself and whoever are my current travelling musical companions." Wallinger seemed to adopt that philosophy. In that quote, you could replace "Scott" with "Wallinger" and "Waterboys" with "World Party." I just put up a post with my World Party album ratings and Top 20 songs rankings. I'd love to see a similar list of Waterboys albums and songs.
Michelle
Sorry... he does not look like Eric Carmen, not even on Eric's bad days.
Momof2setsoftwins
100% correct. No comparison.

For starters though, I'll say that the two albums with Wallinger top my list, This Is The Sea(which includes Whole Of The Moon) and A Pagan Place. Both are among my all time favorite albums. My top tracks will definitely include This Is The Sea, Universal Hall, Church Not Made With Hands, Fisherman's Blues, and How Long Will I Love You as well as Whole Of The Moon. pretender
I much prefer this slower live version of How Long Will I Love You to the original on Room To Roam. And to the Ellie Goulding cover a couple years ago.

I'll stream those two albums and give 'em a listen, on you recommendation. If you get time, naturally we'd love to see a "top 10" or "20" list. (You might have noticed that some of us—especially Craig, James, and me—were doing a lot of posts like that before the board's hiatus. I think we're getting back into it.)
