Great Film Scores

Recommended Posts

In the classical music thread, Kirk mentioned his admiration of noted composer Miklós Rózsa who had quite a career in the film industry and scored very notable films such as King of Kings (as mentioned by Kirk), Ben-Hur (1959), Quo Vadis (1951) & Double Indemnity.

In the same thread, I mentioned Disney's Fantasia in which the score has equal billing with the "actors".

What film scores are memorable to you?

Jerry Goldsmith is another master of the film score.  His scores act as characters unto themselves in the films and move the action along.

His score for Patton is incredible, and his use of the Echoplex in the trumpet fanfare is brilliant.

I don't know if he's recognized in his own time as much as he deserves, but John Williams has done some wonderful film scores.
