Raspbernie Posted August 2, 2016 Share Posted August 2, 2016 When I started this website, way back in 1997, most families didn't have personal computers. in fact, one of the first things I did when powering up my first computer—an Apple Macintosh, of course—was search for "Eric Carmen." When the only thing that came up was a page or two on the opera "Carmen" by Bizet, I started my own fan site—dubbed "The Eric Carmen Home Page" (because that's what they called them back then). It opened with little fanfare and grew and grew until now, literally bursting at the seams with over 2,800,000 hits! Pretty impressive. Eric didn't have a computer back then, so the first few years of birthday messages were compiled by me, printed, placed into a binder and mailed to Eric. Eventually, I got it all online. And when the Raspberries reunion was in full swing, this online birthday card would often get hundreds of signatures and messages from fans and well-wishers all around the world. Now with social media offering fans various ways to interact with their favorite celebrity, website forums like this one seem to be stuck in time, with less visitors, and with more nostalgia than anything else for a time long gone by. So yeah, hit Eric up with a "Happy Birthday" on Facebook. Shoot him a tweet. Send him an Instagram pic. But maybe just for old times sake, give him a shout out here, at EricCarmen.com—where it all began. Happy Birthday, Eric! Save a piece of cake for me! But, Bernie has made me all nostalgic for the 'good ol' days of the internet and EricCarmen.com, so let me be the next in line to wish Eric "Happy Birthday" this year! I got a computer back in 1997 after I stumbled upon this website at the library- borrowing one of their computers to surf the net. Up until then, I didn't much care if I was part of the computer age or not. After the discovery of EC.com, I couldn't wait to get one! What has transpired in the 20 years since has been some of the best times I've had on the internet, thanks to Eric and his contributions to this website, as well as everything else Bernie's creation has spawned. If it rains on your birthday, Jump in puddles, Go to the park and enjoy the swing set! At age 3, you were a genius and you still are! Enjoy your day without listening to the news, the modern trashy music, and just relax. Have fun with the kids and do whatever you want to. I've always been a fan, and had to listen to "Go All the Way" behind my parent's backs, but you give us happiness. We need that.
