James
This morning, for 2 of my employees, I played some clips from some of the Charlie Brown Specials. They loved the clips, as I did. Linus, Pig Pen, Lucy pulling the football out from Charlie Brown, the trombone voice teacher, etc. Great stuff. My employees had never seen these cartoons. I felt kind of a pride at being American as we watched these clips. People like Charles Schulz (and team) are really the heart of what is / was good about our country. IMHO. I hope more like Schulz and team come around for the kids of the future, and for the adults as I enjoy these "kids" shows today as much as I did as a kid. Hard to find a better 2 minute segment of tv than this clip, so great : youtube.com/watch?v=CojUP5nRidA
AnneNR
There have been some rumors I have heard that the powers in the media that be, may not be showing this Charlie Brown special much longer because of the "religious" beliefs or more specifically, reading directly from the Bible in Linus' monologue. Christmas as we know it today is a "matrix construct" of make-believe and some pagan traditions of men, not a true recognition of the birth of the Lord Yeshua, or even the correct time of year for that purpose had God asked us to commemorate that day anyway. That being said, I always loved watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special when I was growing up. The way the kids interacted with each other was an honest reflection of kids' behavior toward each other, in a "Leave It To Beaver" kinda way, and most kids that I knew back in the day could relate to it. It made you laugh, made you feel for the guy getting picked on by the other kids, made you feel good about singing Christmas Carols and participating in this social tradition in your own home. My, how things and perspectives have changed. AnneNR
susie b
Funny you should post this, James. We've had a lot of Schulzmania on FB lately. It seems our generation love the man, the kids & the beagle. Viva Peanuts and its universal messages! This comic strip is on par with Chaplin in it's universal appeal of the human (and beagle) experience.

Raspbernie
One of my first aspirations was to be a cartoonist. From an early age, I was really good at drawing. In fact, my first legitimate job was as an inker at Marvel Comics. But before that, I wanted to do what Walt Kelly, Hank Ketcham, Chic Young, Bill Watterson and Charles Schulz did. Draw a comic strip. In fact, when I was a teenager, I wrote to many of the top cartoonists in the world and asked for advice. All were gracious. Many gave tips and encouragement. Some sent sketches. Raspbernie
A number of years later, I noticed that Snoopy hadn't been as active as I had seen him in the past. With that observation, I wrote a funny letter to Schulz suggesting that he may want to take Snoopy to the vet to have him checked out. He responded: Bernie
Raspbernie
That letter I wrote inspired one of the greatest cartoonists of all time to draw this strip, which he personalized and sent to me: Now how cool is that?!? Bernie
James
About as cool as it gets. For sure. Great story Bernie! James
Katariina
I remember the time, when people used to write letters and send those letters by postoffice And that great thrill when you expected an answer by post. I loved it. E-mail is great too, but...
James
Mailing letters and getting responses via post office mail was a thrill for me too Katariina. Going to check the mail every day was a highlight of each day. The good thing is it´s still available to use if we want. P.S. Bernie, your posts above re: your correspondence with Charles Schulz - could be the best on here I´ve read since I joined up some years ago. LobsterLvr
Back in the mid 80's I had the chance to work with the Peanut's characters. They were the spokestoons for Cheerios for about 3 years. On one occasion I had to call Mr. Schulz to get his approval on a storyboard featuring Peppermint Patty and Marcie. He wasn't in the mood to give us his approval (that's putting it nicely). But in the end he liked the idea, and the spot turned out well. Raspbernie
Larry, It still puzzles Teresa that I came to your "Antiques Roadshow" event empty-handed! Bernie
LC
Bernie, I know! But you just wanted to check it out. That was a good day — I was glad you got to come by and snoop around a bit. PS: Tell Teresa I went to 35 of those shows over 14 years and never brought anything to get appraised! :-)
