"Daddy I´m Alright"..

James

Recommended Posts

..written and performed by Patrick Griffin (EC.com member Blackhawk Pat) is sometimes my favorite song of all time, it´s that good, ..it is definitely the most moving song I´ve ever listened to.  The album from which it was released ("I´d Rather Do It Myself") is really good.  It´s available on amazon.com and some other outlets I think.

Anyway, Pat, how close are you to releasing the next album?......some of us feel like we´re re-living the summer of 1977 when we were jonesing to hear Eric Carmen´s forthcoming "Boats Against the Current" album !!  :-)

Some members here haven´t heard the song, so here it is.  So great :

Thanks so much for the kudos and for asking about the new record. All the songs are written and ready to go, I have been having my usual issues with the guitar players which have caused massive delays in the recording and so funny that you made that Boats delay reference, James, because I just got an email from the engineer and he was being goofy and he wrote "Dear Elton" to me and signed it "Gus".....perfect timing!

I am actually hoping for a boost in the next two weeks when the drums and keyboard parts get serious, then, I may have to take to the road to get some new guitar parts put on there. More details on that later when they become official. So, I am not quite sure when the record will be out, certainly in 2016, but I feel it will be worth the wait when it does. I used to wonder why it took my heroes so long to put out new albums, but now I get it. Other people can really slow you down, which is how the "I'd Rather Do It Myself" title came out in the first place. I just had a new friend ask me to perform "Out Of My Life' for her live today, which I haven't done in a bit, so that was fun because I did it in the same room as the album cover and back were shot.

Thanks again for your support, which means so much, because in my eyes, you guys are some of the best people on the planet!

BTW, not sure I have ever mentioned this here, but the girl who made this lyric video for me for Youtube passed away at the incredibly young age of twenty last year due to a blockage in her veins that was never detected. I can't begin to tell you the irony this is for me. Sarah was like an extra daughter to me and there are days I still feel she will walk in the front door. I think she did a fantastic job on this and she is greatly missed. She is one of the people I will be dedicating this new record to. Love you, Sarah!

Thanks Pat for the feedback.

..and re: "Out of my life" - it´s  my other favorite on the album.  It´s impossible for me to listen just once to that song when I spin the album.  Couldn´t find a link on YouTube to post here.    Great great ballad it is though.

Thanks for the bump, Susie. It’s ironic that yesterday should have been Sarah’s (Who created the lyric video) 29th birthday. Still can’t believe she’s gone. She was like a daughter to me, but then again I still can’t believe my daughter Jennifer is gone. 💔

Little known fact. When I first recorded  “Daddy, I’m Alright”  I was concerned about the length of it and I thought about cutting the bridge and none other than Eric Carmen told me to leave it in. I had written him asking his advice and when Eric speaks, you listen!

Pat, that's a great bit of history to go with the song. I love that Eric gave you a reply... nice touch! (Now, he didn't ask you for a co-writing credit, did he? lol )

He is the man. Always been helpful when it comes to things like that!  He told me to never let anyone, a fan, a friend, a record company, tell me that a song is too long.

Ha! Eric knows of what he speaks, considering he's written some marathon songs.... "I Can Remember" and "Run Away" at 8-plus minutes, "All By Myself" at 7-plus minutes, "Overnight Sensation" at 5-plus minutes....

When I read the thread I thought of both Jennifer and Sarah.  Although Sarah was not your biological daughter, she was one of your girls.

EC is so cool!!!

Pat, did Eric actually listen to the song? I remember him saying he wouldn't listen to any tapes that were sent to him because people might accuse him of stealing their songs.

As far as I know he did. He sent me quite a lengthy reply, so at the time it appeared he listened. I had even said to him I know you don’t listen to songs from other people but this is a very special song to me otherwise I wouldn’t ask and he’s always been very kind to me. In fact any time I have posted this song on Twitter, when he was a member there, not only did he like it but he would always put the praying hands and the broken heart as a response. I can’t say enough about the man.
