I´d put Burton Cummings..

This is an absolutely wonderful song.  I would wish that the piano playing were a bit more smoothly done, seems a little too stacato and strong for the song, it needs to blend better with Mr. Cummings' melodic voice in this piece.  So nice to hear his voice as I haven't played a song with him as lead vocal for a while.

Thank you for posting the video, James, it was a great reminiscent moment for me. :)

Odd note --- until recently, I had "The Guess Who" and "The Who" together in my mind as one band with various personnel changes throughout the decades.  I finally have it set in my mind correctly after looking up music from both bands to figure out what compile disc I would need to find for my growing collection.

I am constantly learning stuff I didn't know I had wrong.  This website has helped get rid of the cobwebs in my musical memory banks.

I remember hearing "Charlemagne" in the summer of 1977 a few times on WCOL FM in Columbus (a deep cut rock station).  I fell in love with the song, that is how I got into Burton Cummings as I quicky went out and bought the álbum ("My Own Way to Rock"), and then a few weeks later I backtracked and bought the first album...and of course "Dream of a Child" when it came out later.  I liked the Guess Who a lot, "Star Baby" is in the running for best song of all time (IMHO), but I liked Burton´s solo music a lot more.

Very beautiful song - I had never heard it before!  My sister and I did like "Star Baby" back in the day!  Very talented man - wonderful voice!  Like Eric Carmen, I appreciate his talent more now - kudos to all of you who have known all along!:)

Agree Pat. The HOF has so many holes — major omissions.

James, I wonder where AnneNR went. She had more than 1,700 posts, so it's not like she was a casual user. And ALL of her posts came between 2014 and 2020. I know because I looked at her activity, and her first post was in 2014. And, by the way, it showed that she was a straight shooter and music head who fits in here so well. It was a. thread where Ira was all excited about a video of Eric and Merry Clayton. And AnneNR wrote this very well-thought-out response:

"I've been trolling the internet off and on for the past week and a half looking up clips like this (but haven't seen this one before) so thank you for the upload. Gotta say, though, as much as I really enjoy hearing Mr. Carmen sing, it's obvious that Ms. Clayton's got great "chops." Pairing these two people together is not optimal for either one of them.  I'd rather pay attention to them individually during this performance and can enjoy them separately, but jointly --- not so much."

I hope she finds her way back here!

If I were Burton, I'd not accept if one day they come to their senses.

That's how you change things for the better.

I agree James, but you know what? Todd Rundgren always said he would never accept if they put him in the hall and when he was inducted recently, he stuck to his word and didn’t show up but they still had somebody show a video collage of him and put him in regardless. Interestingly enough the video they showed ended with a clip of him saying I will never show up if the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame puts me in!
