Quotable Carmen

A few weeks a year, I'm in charge of things here at the office. :D

This is one of those weeks. One of my jobs is to find a quote each day from a famous person.

Lay an Eric Carmen quote on me. It can be funny, inspiring or whatever. I need it by Thursday morning.

OK ... go!

(The Rs) had "a certain intellectual backdrop to the whole thing.  There was an idea behind the group.  There weren't too many in the U.S. at the time..."

p.s.  Of course E also said "Go All The Way" which can mean anything you want it to mean.

Cheryl,

Thanks for making me think this a.m.  I've been so busy tending to Wayne's leg injury and voting for GATW, I haven't posted much recently.

:)

I put one of my favorites on Twitter a few days ago.

"Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see."

 Arthur Schopenhauer

....if genius hits a target no one else can see..... how does one even know there are geniuses if this statement is true   --- since no one else "sees" the target in the first place, you then by extension cannot see that the person who hit it is a genius.   At least with Talent, others can "see" the target even though they themselves cannot hit it.  I only agree with the first part of that quote.

To me, it means you don't see the target until genius makes it visible.

I wish Mr. Schopenhauer could've said it that plainly and clearly.   Since YOU did just simplify that, I guess it proves you are a genius according to the Mr. Bukowski quote, and Mr. Schopenhauer is just a very smart guy --- not necessarily a genius.  :P   Well done, Mr. Carmen, good communication and thinking skills.

Well, I was going to post a screenshot of the quote I used (it was Eric's second one; I copied and pasted it, so it's even his actual typing ;)) but I'm apparently too dumb to figure out how to post a photo!

Anyway, it's a great quote. Even The Girl said, "Ooh, Mom, I like that one!" And she's wicked hard to impress.

Thanks, Eric, and everyone else. And keep them coming — I love quotes, and I've got to be put in charge at some point again, right?

Here's one of my favorites:

"Change is inevitable — except from a vending machine." — Anonymous.

Not appropriate for Paperdoll's assignment but a memorable Bukowski quote as he looked over a crowd gathered for a poetry reading: "Where the fuck were you when I was living on a candy bar a day?"

Fitzgerald during his Crack Up period (paraphrase): "Writing is like trying to breathe underwater."

Hemingway: "Develop a built in bullshit detector."

Sorry. I'll try to come up with something more positive next time.
