The Essential Eric Carmen

Recommended Posts

Sorry,

"Foolin' Myself" didn't make the cut. That said, there were lots of good songs that didn't make the cut. We only had 30 available slots to fill, and Tim and I were determined to create a balance between the rockers and the ballads.

One of Tim's main goals, from the very beginning, was to show everyone I "didn't stop rockin' when I signed with Arista."

While I am a bit sad that "Foolin' Myself" did'nt make the final cut of 30 to be remastered I still have that song. To me the song is perfection anyway. Thinking about it I have always kind of thought that "Foolin' Myself" was kind of my song. It was not a big hit, Never went on to a 45. No radio stations were playing it. But still, in my opinion it is EC at his best. I could listen to it over and over on my turntable all by myself (no punn intended). I could pick up the LP "Tonight You're Mine" for $1.99 in bargin bins so I had several copies of my song. As one record would get too many pops anc cracks. I would just put on another LP.

Now I am feeling like I am on cloud nine because "e" actually talked to me when he wrote that FOOLIN' did'nt make the cut. "E" said he was sorry to me. "E" made the time to read my little blurp on this thread and responded to me. I am in Awe! "E" is truly one of the greats. Thank you for being involved with your fans. It does mean a lot to us.

As far as the remastered 30, I know I will be flabergasted with it. I know that Never gonna fall in love again and Boats will be on it and thats enough for me.

Of course Eric Carmen albums were wall-to-wall good/great songs, so it's tough to make the cut for any of his songs on a compilation album.

Having said that,  in my book, "Foolin Myself" is  easily in the top 10 of Eric Carmen songs.  Probably top 5. So great.

Hello folks!  Not sure if this has been mentioned but is the song 'The Rock Stops Here' on the new collection? I remember when I read in a magazine years ago that Eric and his brother wrote and recorded the song. I actually wrote to a record store in Cleveland, OH to get a copy of the 45. I still have that. Always enjoyed the song.

When I lived in Japan stationed in the Military I used to run with my walkman cassette player and have the song 'runaway' playing. The end part would really be great to run to when Eric is jamming out the song. I still play cassette tapes ...  even today. Believe it or not I appreciate the tangible aspect of them rather than an MP3 player.
