marvin
They're allowing fan votes to count. All you Rush fans, your dream might now come true.Rock Hall Of course they now need to make this voting applicable to acts that are not on the ballot or who have missed out on induction. Dave from Equinox
At this moment, top vote-getters are Rush, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and Albert King. Nice to see Chic is dead last in the poll.

Dave from Equinox
I agree with you on that, Marvin.I'm just one of these old geezers that think only Rock acts belong in the R&R HOF, not disco or rap acts or stuff like Madonna. That's where that crack about Chic was coming from. On the other hand, there's no HOF to put those others into... maybe they should change the name to popular music HOF or something, I don't know. marvin
There's a great quote from Joel Preserman, president and CEO of the Hall, which I think answers the question about Chic, Madonna, etc:"The definition of 'rock and roll' means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music. This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artist that span the entire genre that is 'rock and roll.'"
marvin
WOW! Heart and Rush were chosen as two of the 2013 inductees. I guess those fan votes really helped out.

marvin
Read a great quote from Nancy Wilson about Rush: "I don't think anyone does Rush songs except for Rush. That would require weeks of rehearsal."
JohnO
IMO, one of the worst classes of inductees ever. (Albert King should have been in years ago as an influence, and the rest.....I don't believe I've ever owned any records/cassettes/8-tracks/CDs of any of them...) While I don't own anything by Rush, I do have a couple of Donna Summer albums from way back, and have the first three albums that Heart released. Find it odd that Rush got in (their huge fan support has a lot to do with this), and yet other prog rock bands such as Yes, who one could argue have had a bigger influence, are not in. The mystery that is the Rock Hall continues.
James
RUSH has worked harder than any band alive. They have continuously put out music since their first album in 1974...and they´ve pretty much continuously toured during those years. They´ve kept their integrity and put out ONLY music they love and music THEY want to put out. They went up against the record companies early on....and won. They never compromised with their music. Almost no band can claim this. And they´ve written about interesting stuff....they haven´t sunk to the trite pussy etc. subject matter of most other bands. And their music is stellar. And they are a class act. They deserve the induction on many levels..as much as any band in the rock era.If I were them, I wouldn´t accept the induction as they should have been inducted 20 plus years ago. The Rock Hall is a joke.James
blackhawkpat
I hadn't seen this thread about the fan voting until now. If that is the case, I'm amazed the KISS Army did not get KISS in. Have to ask, is this like sports Hall's, where you are off the ballot after an allotted time? Never been a fan of Rush, but it's puzzling to me that if they got in, how progressive rockers Yes still have not, although they have had much turnover in their lineup over the years.Congrats to Heart on their entry, led by two women who always pay homage to rock and roll pioneers and also to Lou Adler and Quincy Jones.Still no Moody Blues, no Chicago, no KISS, no Monkees...... Billy K.
Matter of opinion, but I believe that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were really ground-breaking musicians and producers. Yes, Edwards/Rogers were a great team, and with drummer Tony Thompson(who people seem to forget about)made an almost unbeatable rhythm unit. The singers did well, but nothing really distinctive. A lot of singers could have been able to pull it off just as well. The songwriting......well, the weak point, but you've got to remember, it's mindless dance music. As musicians, they are much more proficient than most rockers. Yet, at the same time, they are not caught into the "snobbishness and/or blatently showing off" traps that a number of jazz musicians get themselves into.Rush's lyrics are totally different than just about anybody else's.....there is a general lack of romance/sex, partying, politics, religion, dance lyrics, etc...they do topics that other bands won't touch....and still be able to pull it off. I don't think most other artists would do a song about Tom Sawyer, or Bastille Day, and get away with it.Additionally, they are still only three people on the stage, and make the most of it. No HOF of any kind for Frank Sinatra to be in. That is sad, considering what he's done for popular music.
december25
I agree Tony. Not too wild about Rush. Where are the Raspberries or EC? The Rock Hall continues to just confuse me with their choices. Of course, James will say that I am confused due to be southern, etc. LOL
