Monkee Davy Jones has died

Most of us here are 40+, so as far as some of our musical heroes are concerned, we're approaching the inevitable. I just look at some of those who have passed in the last year, all at a relatively young age (under 70), and time is not on their side.

R.I.P. Davy, and thanks for the good memories and wonderful songs.

I just heard this on the news a few hours ago. I'm really tired of losing people that I like. He was on a TV show a few years ago and looked really good. I shall miss him. RIP cryingpray

To the man who I had pinned up on my wall for at least 2 years and who constantly rode in the back seat of our car when we went out to the stores (yes he was the fantasy man who I dated at age 6 lol) and to his family and friends - he will be missed greatly by all who loved him. I am so thankful I got to see them play last May and that I got to hear him sing Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow ..... Bernie you KNOW that song will get to me every time.... RIP Davy....

Ouch! I hope it was a poster and not actually Davy who was pinned to your wall. wink

If Davy was only 66, he really was just a kid when he was with the Monkees. Both Peter and Mike have posted some heart-felt comments.

Just backtracked on this thread. For a lot of us who just barely missed Beatlemania, the Monkees were "it" and when we outgrew them, the more serious power-pop of Raspberries came along just in time.

For a few innocent years, though, Saturday night meant The Monkees on TV, and they seemed to have new records coming out all the time, good ones, despite the criticism of the "rawk press."

Sad day....

From my facebook:

It's a sad day in my heart, when the "boy" who was my 2nd crush is taken. I think when I stop weeping, I will remember how lucky I was that God granted me a chance meeting with him. I love you, Davy. Thank you for being a sweet person and letting me know that shorter guys don't mind taller girls.

and

I found the photo of Davy Jones and me in Vegas, Nov. 30, 1996. I was soooooo excited that I finally had gotten to meet him! He was so cute and sweet. And the one thing I remember was that he commented on my height (in a very good way) as I have previously mentioned in an early post. Ok, I did have on 2 inch heels, to be fair.

PS: Thank you MJ for encouraging me to go and see the Monkees (again) last July. It is a decision I now will never regret!
