Back in the day, Mtl's local 'rock' station, CHOM-FM, on Friday evenings used to premiere the top new album releases of the week. Imagine my shock when that Friday they featured the "Tonight You're Mine" album, leading off the show with "It Hurts Too Much." I was in shock, while at the same time smiling from ear to ear. I recall that they also played "Inside Story" and "You Need Some Lovin'" - all which brought back memories of when Eric was rockin' with the 'berries.

Some 30 years later, "It Hurts Too Much" still ranks in my Top 5 of best songs Eric has ever written. Why wasn't it a hit? Well I think the wonderful A&R and promotion people from Capitol followed Eric to Arista!

I gotta agree.. with so many great songs in Eric's catalog, this one is still, along with BOAC, one of the most poorly promoted singles in his career. How many other major hits might have our favorite singer had, if those in charge of promoting had done something close to what should have been the basics of their job... It Hurts Too Much (to think what might have been...)

At one of the 'berries' reunion shows in NY in 2005, Diane introduced me to a friend of hers who back in the 1970s, worked promotion for Capitol. I jokingly said to him, "It was YOUR fault that Raspberries never made it big!" He smiled at me, accepted my accusation and said, "I totally admit that we dropped the ball. We were too busy promoting acts like Steve Miller and Grand Funk because they were our big acts."

Great live performance! Japan really got some great "Eric in his Prime" shows over there, at a time when Clive and the stoooopid Americans were not giving the guy his due...on a GREAT ALBUM release.

Such great comments by everyone on the board on this thread..Hossy THANKS SO MUCH for uploading this treasure; these live recordings are better than the studio cuts IMHO. I love the Tonight Your Mine LP and this is such a great lead off song..Tony captures my thoughts..what great performances in Japan and we were clueless over here. grumpy

And the photo montage is EXCELLENT!!! LuvLoveLuvLoveLuvLove Jean

The hit solo singles speak for themselves, but this is my personal non hit solo favorite (inching out Desparate Fools), and would be incredible live, just like my favorite Raspberries non-single, If You Change Your Mind. I like the vocal momentum build and always love acoustic guitar in rock.

btw, the video of this Japan concert is pretty cool, (with Erics choice of shoes I think he must have been about 6' 4" lol)
