Hmm... it's looking like we'll have 10 teams in the money league.... Well, actually, Pat's got a stand-in, so even getting one extra owner now will keep us at 12 teams. It's only $20 to play. You can't buy this kind of fun for that price anywhere else.... Right?

The guy I had doesn't want in on the pay league, so we need either two new players or none to stay even.

Well, boys and girls, we're drawing closer to our deadline for the money league. We have 10 teams so we can enter the season that way, but... I feel like I should toss this out there one more time. Anyone interested? Let me know ASAP. Send me a PM or post here.

This is the 7th year of our Raspberries Baseball League, and it's really a great group. There's also a lot of parity; we've had five different champs in six seasons, with Tommy Tunes being the only repeat champ so far.

Here's how the lineup looks now:

BOOYAH BALLERS (Booyah)

BUNDLE AGAINST CURRENT (Lew Bundles)

CYRUS ERIE WEST (Rick, aka Mood Indigo)

DOUBLE PLAY ON (Beatlejay)

GREAT EXPECTATIONS (Paulie Mississippi)

GO DOWN SWINGIN' (Mitch)

RASPHILLIES (Harry, aka Tiggsherby)

TUNES TONIGHT (Tommy Tunes)

TAKE IT OR LEAVE ITs (Blackhawk Pat)

THE GO ALL THE WAYs (LC)

There's no better way to follow (or learn more about) baseball, IMHO. Give it a crack...

(Why do I keep thinking Cartmill is suddenly going to say, "Okay, I'll give it a shot, guys... send me an invite..."? )

Thanks, BHP. Ten teams will have to do in the money league. Well, the upside, as you mention, is the rich Free Agent list we'll have. So it's not all bad. But of course I would love to have remained at 12 teams.

Good luck to all, and thanks in advance to Muzza and Kiwi.

Pat, I e-mailed Muzza and told him he could go ahead and post the draft orders at EC.com himself, if he'd like. Or, if you want, I'll do it.

Muzza and Kiwi, thank you, as always, for this carrying on this nice little tradition.

Best,

LC

Thanks, Muzza! And remember, kids, it's not where you pick, but how you pick. (Remember in 1984 how the Portland Trail Blazers decided to use the 2nd overall pick in the NBA on Sam Bowie, passing on that Michael Jordan guy, who went to the next team. Consider how that decision changed the fates of the T-Blazers, the Bulls, Jordan, and the NBA.)

Anyway, good luck at the drafts, all.

FANTASY BASEBALL LAND — The franchise formerly known as GM-LC's Beatle Boys has a new name: The Hit Records (#1). While owner LC appreciated the Beatles reference given to the team by former owner Giro, he felt like a change might do some good after last year's rough showing.

In keeping with the original theme of the league, LC chose a team name relating to an Eric Carmen song, in this case "Overnight Sensation," — except instead of using the song's official title, he went with its parenthetical phrase. As everyone here knows, Mr. Carmen originally called the song "Hit Record," only to be overruled when Capitol Records pulled rank and titled the song the way its executives thought would give it a better chance at chart success.

"Regardless of Capitol's micro-management back in 1974," LC said, "'Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)' is a classic. It sounds a little John Lennon-ish, too.

"Besides," added LC, stating the obvious, "the phrase 'Hit Record' is a perfect double entendre within an Eric Carmen baseball league. Of course, it can only mean we'll be drafting a pitching-heavy team...."

LC noted that his Go All the Ways entry in the high-stakes, er, modest-stakes Raspberries Baseball League likely will not change its name.

Reaction from around the league:

* "Boooooo!" —Booyah John

* "Doesn't matter what he calls his team; it won't change that 9th-place finish last season." —Tommy Tunes

* "I'm still POed that his sad-sack team crawled past my squad at the end of last season, so no well wishes from here." —Lew Bundles

* "I don't care whether he drafts a lot of pitching or a lot of hitting or neither, as long as he keeps his mitts off my Phillies." —Harry "Tiggsherby"

* "We're new to EC Baseball, but we hope he's better here than he was in hockey." —Miriam and BV Kim

* "I have nothing to say." —Mitch (a.k.a., The Quiet Assassin)

* "Nice change, but... not quite as clever as my new team name: 'Deep Blue Sea Devils.'" —BeatleJay

* "Who cares, really?" —Paulie Mississippi

* "I would echo what Paulie says, though with stunning sound quality and enhanced dynamic range thanks to midrange and low-frequency drivers and woofers and tweeters built for amazing detail and clarity." —VOX Populi owner Tom (aka Keith Nivan)

* "I know LC is commissioner of the Raspberries League, but I'm the sheriff in this town, and his name change will be reviewed here at headquarters before it is approved." —Blackhawk Pat

* "I love LC." —Marlene, defending champion

LOL...think LC is pumped for the drafts?

Just wanted to remind the draftees that there are a couple of differences in the two leagues. The RBL has specific outfield positions (LF, CF, RF) while the ECL still goes with the generic OF. The RBL uses five SP's and six RP's, while the ECL uses four SP's, four RP's and three P's (either type allowed).

The RBL uses BB and Holds as categories, while the ECL does not.

LC has inspired me to change my team name, too, (seeing the Take It Or Leave It's have NEVER won) so I have renamed my team "The Jatt".
