JohnO
Not a good weekend for musicians. . . Soul singer supreme Howard Tate passed away at the age of 72 on Friday or Saturday, complications from leukemia. He had a totally insane voice - could leap to falsetto (and usually did) at the drop of a hat. His Get It While You Can album on Verve is, IMO, one of the best soul LPs in history. Was rediscovered in 2003 after being retired for a long stretch, and put out several comeback CDs over the past 8 years. Saw him in New Orleans at the Ponderosa Stomp in 2009.
