Here's our schedule for our next trip to the USA, any Raspberries fans in this area?

TOUR of the SOUTH - March/April 2012

Day by day itinerary

SAT March 31

- flight Brussels ^ Atlanta (US Airways)

- picked up by Arnold at the airport with van & trailer

- downtown stroll (depending hour of arrival)

- check-in for one night in Atlanta

SUN April 1

- Sweet Auburn (MLK Jr's neighborhood)

Transfer to Macon, GA

- visit Allman Brothers' Big House

- Rose Hill Cemetery (Duane Allman & Berry Oakley)

- check-in for one night in Macon

MON April 2

- Ocmulgee Mounds

Transfer to Montgomery, AL via:

- Providence Canyon

- Columbus, GA (Ma Rainey)

- Hank Williams's gravesite

- check-in for one night in Montgomery

TUE April 3

- visit Rosa Parks Museum (9 am)

Transfer to New Orleans via:

- Selma, AL (Edmund Pettus Bridge, Voting Rights Museum & Brown Chapel)

- Meridian, MS (Jimmie Rodgers, Peavey amps)

- the lower 9th Ward (Fats Domino, hurricane Katrina)

- check-in for three nights in downtown New Orleans

WED April 4

- Historic tour riverfront and French Quarter

- afternoon and evening free

THU April 5

- Musical tour (Storyville, St. Louis cemetery, Congo Square, House of the Rising Sun site, Tremé, Cosimo Matassa)

- afternoon and evening free

FRI April 6

- Barataria Preserve (swamp tour)

Transfer to Lafayette, LA via:

- Morgan City (Mississippi flood of 2011)

- Loreauville (Clifton Chenier)

- St. Martinville (Longfellow's Evangeline oak)

- check-in for two nights in Lafayette

- cajun dinner at Mulate's (Breaux Bridge)

SAT April 7

- Mouton accordion shop

- visit Elvis's birthplace

- check-in for one night in Tupelo

MON April 16

- Tupelo Hardware Store

Transfer to Nashville, TN via:

- Natchez Trace Parkway

- Muscle Shoals (visit Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Fame studio, MSS studio)

- Pulaski

- check-in for two nights in Nashville

TUE April 17

- visit RCA Studio B

- visit Country Music Hall of Fame

- Broadway (Gruen Guitars, Hatch Print, Wild Horse Saloon, Ernest Tubb Record Shop)

- visit Ryman Auditorium

- Grand Ole' Opry Show

WED April 18

- Hendersonville (Johnny Cash)

- return van & trailer

- flight back Nashville ^ Brussels (where we arrive around 8 am the next morning)

I don't live in the south but I did tour many of the places that you will be visiting. (It was before Katrina when I saw New Orleans.) If you are an Elvis Presley fan you probably look forward to Graceland. Nice area of the country to see; the southern hospitality and the home-style feeling is very welcoming to visitors. I remember being impressed with the full-scale replica of the Parthenon and the 42-foot statue of Athena in Centennial Park in Nashville, but you may not have time to see it.

What? No side trip to Athens, Georgia, the "Liverpool of the south?"

You could visit the B52s actual "Love Shack" just off the Atlanta Hwy. You could lunch at Weaver D's "Automatic for the People". Catch Mike Mills teeing off at the Athens Country Club. Get sneered at by Michael Stipe as you say hello to him at his favorite restaurant, the 5&10. Visit the lengendary Georgia Theatre where so many famous Athens acts got their start, including.....
