Thanks for your pics, Wendy. Great to see Jim.

I'm glad Tim had a fun time, and he got to see Jesse's band on the same night that Wally played.

We love you, Wally! Do you smoke cigars, yet? I mean puff. Not good to inhale the smoke.

I'd walk a mile in your shoes, anyday. Well, maybe a few steps. Your shoes might not fit me. Hah! It's not easy to play so many songs. You are always cool to me. Your jokes are to make us laugh about life and our experiences. You worked so hard at what you do, so keep on joking, in fun.

Do some stand-up comedy, and play a few measures of music on your guitar, with your jokes. Some people do part of their act that way. Or better yet, make a video game or something with music, and some one-liner jokes. Or do the voice of a character being portrayed in the video. People have made alot of money like this.

No offense to Jim, but Wendy... you look waaaaaay better behind those drums. cool

LOL---I don't know. I think you all would have really enoyed his band and have been MORE than happy to have him behind those drums. Gosh, they were really great. I saw them a year ago and was so happy to see them again!

A good time with some good people! Glad I went to see them. Two shows in one night...not bad for a tourist.

"And on that note, I don’t know why the comment was brought up in the first place on Eric Carmen’s board. I wouldn’t have voiced my opinion (nor brought up the subject on my own) if said subject had not been broached."

OK, I'm the one who brought it up, and here's why...........

(1) Hardly anybody on this board attended the show - there were just a small number of us there. (2) From comments I received via PMs here and/or messages/posts on Facebook, it appeared that those who were unable to attend, really wanted to hear the details from the show. (3) Wally's comments, which he made throughout the entire show, and which were well-received by the audience, if their laughter was any indication, are definitely a part of any show he does. I missed the majority of his comments from where I was in the ballroom, because of the volume of their laughter. And for all I know, Terry Hatcher (the guitar tech) and his mother and relatives might be reading this, and are pissed about my having brought up Wally's comments about him.

That said, sorry, but I still don't see Wally's initial comment as an insult to Eric. If anything, it was the only acknowledgement tossed EC's way all night....and if he hadn't have said it, what we might be debating about here now is the fact that Wally refused to mention Eric.....it's a no-win situation! And yes, any comment made about anybody CAN be construed as an insult, if that's what you choose to read into it.

Example - Wendy, you made an earlier post on this thread where it looks like you referred to a "talented artist" (Wally) insulting or poking at an "(extremely) talented artist" (Eric) Couldn't that be easily construed as an insult to Wally, calling him inferior to EC?.....especially in light of Eric having said before that Wally's as good at what he does (guitar) as Eric is at what he does (front man, writing hit songs)?

Lastly - why post this on an Eric Carmen board??? Good question! And one which I'll answer with a question......Why the 23,510 posts on Cartoon World, most of which are devoted to pushing a particular political agenda, one which is already apparently shared by most people here? (And those of us who do not, for the most part, just stay the Hell out of that section.)

P.S. And admittedly, I'm probably scarred from my 4th rock & roll show I ever attended, where the Davies brothers (Kinks) insulted each other over the mike most of the show, then got into a three-way fist fight (including drummer Mick Avory) during the encore, ending when Dave D. kicked Mick's drum kit all over the stage....

Thank you, John. Your comments are stated wonderfully.

Marv - Thanks! Hope Kay doesn't mind my quoting her here, to try to put this thing to rest........

For what it's worth - Kay Bryson's words about Wally's remark (taken from another board)...........

"The drummer's wife suggested that Wally should come out and do one song alone to start the show. As everyone knows, Wally is a band guy. He's never wanted to be a solo artist. He likes the commaraderie and interplay between band members. But he decided to do "I'd Rather You Leave Me" before the rest of the band joined him on stage. Wally is always nervous before a show, whether before a few people or thousands...it doesn't matter. But he was a little extra nervous for this one for many reasons, one being the solo song. When he came on stage, he said something like, "Here I am all by myself" meaning without his band, something he's rarely done. He immediately realized the connotation and said almost embarrassedly, "I can't believe I just said that". All pure and innocent with no hidden agenda."

'Nuff said.....

I've kept my mouth shut up until now - Wally and Scott did a great show together - people had a good time and enjoyed it. I'm tired of hearing everyone's opinions - Wally is Wally, Eric is Eric, Jim is Jim, Dave is Dave, Scott is Scott, Mike is Mike, and the Overdubs were the Overdubs. I remember hearing quite a few jabs back and forth during both soundchecks in NYC in 07 - but that is not relevant here.

Everyone is defending their favorite band member. The band no longer exists and they probably would be laughing at everyone here at this point because they are off doing their own thing and living their own lives and don't really give a damn about us or anything we say about them! LOL. And yes I am being crass right now. I think a reality check is in order for everyone lol. There - I have stated my peace. The End - .... and now ...... IT's........ (cue theme music to Monty Python)

JohnO — great stuff, and thanks for sharing it here. Sounds like a Freudian slip, or a bit of kismet, but either way, it doesn't matter. Overall it was much ado about nothing... but at least it gave this bulletin board some life!

As MJ says above, everyone has moved on, and maybe time will heal any lingering resentments, if there even are any.

Before I go... I just wanna say that Wendy rocks, and her opinions are okay by me, and she certainly has a right to voice them here. And I bet, Wendy, that you're happy about Kay Bryson's clarification — "All pure and innocent with no hidden agenda."

Now... why not have another listen to this classic Eric/Wally collaboration?

What's that one song by David Bowie called? "Fame". Someone later wrote a similar title, but with different words and meaning. But it was received with a positive response.

Here's another example of how the reaction would be totally opposite here. (And sometimes we say things that other people think are negative, yet we don't have even a second thought about saying them). This, though, is a positive example :

You hear another favorite band at a club.

For some reason, only one speaker works for one person at the particular moment- the singer.

He or she says, "I guess I'll play it- All by myself".

It catches your attention.

Because you like the band, or know someone in the band, you go home absolutely elated. You react differently, because those three words aren't associated at all with the person saying them. Smiles on your face, you tell everyone how they mentioned that song. But the person wasn't talking about any song at all.

I love reading these posts. They sound like they should be something in "Tiger Beat". Picture Wally and Eric on the cover (names not listed in any order as to my favorite LOL) and these posts as letters from readers!! I've seen so many people get mad & defensive at an e-mail, facebook post or text because they take things the wrong way. People need to lighten up and get a sense of humor. There are far more bad things that can happen in life to get upset about than Wally said this...Eric said that....when we don't really even know them.

Yes, definitely a good idea to lighten up, Iwannabe... Life is too short to get worked up about stuff like this.

Speaking of Tiger Beat... I remember sneaking a peek at that magazine when I was a kid. My sisters always had a copy around so they could stare at Davy Jones and Bobby Sherman and Peter Noone and Dino Desi & Billy and Mark Lindsay and some guy named Sajid Khan.... Ugh. I wondered why girls would read that stuff. I was just getting into Sport and Sports Illustrated back then.

(Of course, being interested in old magazines in general, I checked on eBay to see if there's a lot of buying and selling of old Tiger Beats. I don't think there's a whole lot of demand; I did notice Vol. 1, No. 1 listed at $75, with no takers as of right now:

PS: Thank you, Elle!

Hi all,

Sorry, I’ve been really sick and just got to this thread, again. Thanks Larry for your kind words.

First off, just to clarify, "I" am not “defending†anyone as much as questioning why was said comment stated or brought to this board in the first place. Neither situation needed to happen, but both did.

I suppose having been picked on as a child, I am the first to speak up and question when I think something should have never been said (or posted). So my back was up when the phrase “shit eating grin†was used, because, I felt the same way too, as John O. did about said comment---that it was stated with a “shit eating grinâ€. Except, he "loved" the whole comment. I didn't. And we all know what “shit eating grin†means.

In fact, my back was up when I read that the comment was even brought to the board for no reason. I know I personally would not like it if anyone heard a comment said about me with a "shit eating grin", even if what one heard wasn't suppose to be taken that way...and it was posted on this board, or anywhere. I would wonder why one "loved" it and needed to make everyone aware of it. See what I mean? confused

Thing is, a comment was made and I had my take on it as everyone does on certain things. I chose to keep it to myself and off of this board ‘til said comment was broached, then I wanted to add my take---it is natural, since I was there. And believe it or not, I doubt that if Eric Carmen even has read this thread, he cares what was stated. Again, it is only my take on the comment posted.

But, I (strongly) reiterate...if Eric Carmen (or anyone) had made a comment on stage about Wally Bryson, I would have been just as disappointed and wondered why he even needed to say it and if said subject was brought up here...I would have chimed in. Trust me.

In fact, more than ONE person...upon hearing my excitement of seeing Wally, asked WHY would I see him if Eric Carmen was not with him on stage. What was the point? I would answer---“The point is, I want to see a good show, I believe it will be WONDERFUL (and again from what I heard of it, I really enjoyed), I want to help raise money, and not every band member needs the most “popular†band member on stage with him to put on a great show.†smilie

Personally, (and again this was my take as I left the building) I did not feel that an artist as accomplished as Wally Bryson needed to focus on anyone but himself, the audience, people in the band and those he needed to thank. Perhaps it was open mouth insert foot syndrome. I mean, we’ve all done it. Every one of us. My hand is in the air.

I can honestly state that I won’t apologize for my take on things and if Wally’s wife states that there was no harm meant, then cool---super to hear that! But for future reference, my take may be someone else’s take and that could cause another not to want to go and enjoy a wonderful gig. We were there to hear great music...and nothing else. spin

'Nuff said.

Except...

PS: Until someone has lived my life...please do not tell me to “lighten up†on anything I care to voice my "opinion" on or to get a sense of humor. If anything, I have a rockin’ sense of humor, no matter what life throws at me. :twitch:

All I did was reply to a comment that I believe should have never been brought to this board---that’s all. I think I did it in a mature, rational way, unlike what I would have written in "Tigerbeat" at the age of 14, (mine was 16 Mag.). And not everyone takes things the "wrong way." All have their OWN take and have that right to that take.

My take...my right to comment on what *I* heard and I did so as I am a part of this community. You do not know who I am, and what I do for others---every---single---day. So, I enjoy a break and the chance to exchange opinions and views here. Please do not tell me what I should and shouldn’t do in my life. Thank you. :thanx:

Wendy- At the risk of beating an already dead horse (this thread), I guess I'm puzzled as to what else I can post here as the reason why I brought up Wally's initial comment, unless I start lying about why I did it. As I explained above, very few people on this board attended the show; several who did not, wanted to know details about it; Wally said it to introduce the show.; and frankly, I saw no reason not to bring it up.

You didn't like the comment; I thought it was funny. Had I felt like you, I wouldn't have posted anything on it. I respect your opinion. Not having passed Mindreading 101, though, I had no clue that anyone was going to get bent out of shape over posting this info. Why would I? To me, it was an innocuous comment which I didn't view as an insult to Eric. I have no evil ulterior motive in having posted this info. Yet, in spite of my earlier explanation above, you still ask in your last post - why was anything about this comment even posted here in the first place? To me, this means you either didn't read my earlier explanation, or you don't believe me. If it's the latter, any particular reason?

And BTW, "we all know what a shit-eating grin means." Do we? In the household I grew up in, that term meant a wide grin, showing one's teeth, not automatically something negative. Per Wicktionary, it means "A broad smile indicating self-awareness that may suggest self-satisfaction, smugness, discomfort, or embarrassment. The term is ambiguous and may indicate either a genuine broad smile or a fake broad smile." Sounds like it covers both your scenario and Kay's explanation of Wally being embarrassed, no?

Here's a made-up joke:

Relatives get together, and they're sitting at a dinner table.

Everything is set, the silverware, the plates. A wine glass, with another glass filled with water or a soda. Two forks. One for salad. And a small coffee cup for after the meal.

The topic comes up somehow during the meal-

Alright, who here is perfect?

One of the kids says, "Me? No!"

But the next one says, unbelievably, "I am!"

The aunt says, baffled, "You are?"

The father says, "Oh, that's what he has learned to say

for the past week".

Suddenly, a new word arrives- "Not!"

His father says, "I thought he only knew three words. "No", and "I am".

He asks him, "How did you learn that new word?"

He said, "My sister said, 'I am not!'"

Everyone laughs, because he doesn't yet understand that he's not perfect.

A made-up Halloween story. There are sound effects, along with one of the characters of Halloween. We will use a good witch as the prognasticator.

(A sound of a storm, with lightning, rain, and thunder).

Good witch: EEE-HEE-HEE-HEE. So You, my friends want Me to tell a good story, Huh? Well, let me get my crystal ball that was leant to me tell you a story"":

Well, I see into the past something. Ahh, it's,... wellll. Hmmmm(Thinking). She twitches her nose and asks the crystal ball, and says, "What else? Show me more of that episode. Yes, that one will do. She begins to describe it, but sees more that the ball is showing her. "Wooops", she says.

"O.K. ladies and gentlemen. So You want me to tell what I see?"

Well, yes- Everyone says. Why not?" Someone says, "Is this a joke?" She explains that it's up to them to laugh. It will help, she says. "I do this partly for laughs."

"And here we go! So, I see that you thought you were flawless. And who is that in the crystal ball?- Billy, the one you promised to go to your prom with? But, you went with Scott, instead? Minus one point for that one.

And when you got 10 pieces of candy from your aunt and uncle, you gave your brother only one piece. Minus one more point.

Then she looks and says, "Oh, I won't mention that one". (She laughs). "So see how generous I am?. I only took off two points. And that, my dear, is the way to treat others. Counting points is one thing. But counting every point could go on forever!" grin
