december25
It is really hot in NC. When I came out of the gym after 7pm tonight my car had 104 degrees as the temp. Pile on high humidity with that and you have a real cooker. I hate cold weather but I done with this. My poor dog hates it too. Our 30-45 minute walks are now to about 10. lori
Here in PA it was 80 this AM at 7:00. No kidding! This afternoon it reached 97 with heat index of 120. Tomorrow the heat index is to be 105. I'm actually looking forward to Monday when it's to be 88. I keep cool by going shopping and when home, I plop myself in front of the fan and do absolutely nothing but read! The wash can wait and we sent out for supper.
Bessieboo
We had a high of 89 and then it rained,it's cooler now. Especially, while I was out in the pool.I'm out now because I want a glass of wine and I do not drink in the pool when no one else is home, the guys went to the Marlin game.Do you have A/C at home or somewhere to go while it is so hot ? lori
We don't have AC at home, but my mom lives next door, so I go over to her alot in this heat. The worst time is at night when we're trying to sleep. We have a window fan and if it's above 70 outside, it's cool enough in our room, if it's below 70 (like lately), we run that and a box fan. It helps because I put the box fan on our nightstand and it blows directly over us. We do what we have to do. I guess I don't think much of it, since 4 of my best friends don't have AC either. AnneG
96 or so today. Pretty hot for up here. I was tempted to use the illegal rope swings down by the river!
LC
AnneG! You've been gone a while! Nice to see you post again. (I'm in and out too, but always pop back in when I can.) Anyway, I love NH; I lived in the southern part of the state from 1983-93, and it's a hair cooler up there. Now I'm 45 minutes west of Boston, and we had a hot one today -- a high of 101, as I noticed. To celebrate the heat, I went outside at around 11:30 a.m. and, yes, I cut the lawn. Yep. I was soaked within minutes, and by the time I finished -- probably close to 90 minutes later -- I was seriously dragging. Of course, we were in Hershey, PA, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week, "doing time" at the amusement park there, so I was already conditioned for 100-degree weather. A nice, long, cool rainstorm would be fine about now!

Bessieboo
We Floridian's are warm year-round and are acclimatedI can see how this can be very hard on those who are not accustomed to it.Remember to drink plenty of water or sports drinks and limit alcohol and caffeine. Freeze grapes for a snack.Ice cubes wrapped in a wash cloth and placed in your bra cools your core very nicely.Go to the movies, library or the mall and don't forget to check your pets and elderly neighbors. How are you keeping cool ? Raspberrybelle
This subject brings back memories. Most folks didn't have AC when I was a kid. If you were lucky you got to use an old fashioned metal electric fan. A cold shower or bath helped for a little while. Swimming all day at the community pool was great fun. Sleeping on the hot linoleum floor was miserable but outside on the lawn in the back yard in a sleeping bag or on blankets was an adventure.Belle
GMan
It was 108 at Newark Airport yesterday. That set an all time record with a heat index of 116. It's been brutal folks, just brutal.
ECatw
It was 103 here yesterday with a heat index around 115!I think we're all going to melt away. Today promises to be just as hot and humid.
AnneG
Hey, LC. You must be less than 2 hrs south of me. NH is indeed great, but every year we get a disgusting heat wave. Fortunately it looks to break tonight so we get the relief earlier than NYC. Absolutely brutal there --having to walk to work in a suit in that weather is despicable!
