pretender
filming in England now(starring Johnny Depp)http://darkshadowsnews.blogspot.com/
JuliaD
I can see Johnny Depp in this movie, Alice Cooper, I'm not so sure... but it is something I definitely plan to see, I loved Dark Shadows.
Brian Mc Carthy
out of sight! That would be a perfectly cast cameo for him. This new movie has been in development now for a couple of years and kinda stalled out.Mainly because Johnny Depp had prior movie commitments. Good to hear, that filming has begun. brownie1999
Oh I think Alice Cooper should do more than just a cameo. He would be perfect in the role as Barnabas Collins, in fact I think he looks pretty much like him. Johnny Depp is just way too good looking for the part. Either way I would go see it! I used to hurry home from school when I was a kid just so I didn't miss a minute of that show. Loved it!!
Brian Mc Carthy
That's so funny, everyone who was a fan of the original series says the same thing. They use to run home after school, so they would be able to get to their TV sets on time, including me! IT has become like a fan SLOGAN of sorts. pretender
My wife,Gina, although she was too young to watch the original run of the show has become a huge fan and participates on a DS web page. She has become aquainted with some of the shows biggest fans and last year got us invited to spend Halloween weekend at Seaview Terrace in Newport,Rhode Island(the mansion used for the exterior shots of Collinwood in the original series) with a group of them who have gotten to know the owners. It was a lot of fun and we plan to go again this year. We've also been to a couple of the festivals and got to meet many of the stars. Brian Mc Carthy
NEATO! PRETENDER I have the entire original series on dvd, was watching an episode last night. FUNNY how i saw this topic this morning, because i just changed my avatar last night to Grayson Hall! It's amazing just how popular the show still is. Brian Mc Carthy
ALSO do you cool cats remember DARK SHADOWS THE REVIVAL? IT WAS A SERIES back in 1991, there were only 12 episodes. BEN CROSS had the lead role of Barnabas Collins. It ok, but not nearly as good as the original, in my opinion. I have it on dvd also, the scenes with the vampire attacks are so GRAPHIC,MUCH to bloody for me. They went over the top with it. I think i bought it only because , i had a crush on JOANNA GOING at the time.
pretender
Actually,it was the revival series that first got my wife hooked.I bought that dvd set when it came out and after watching it(and its abrupt end) she had to know where the story went from there. So we had to get the entire original series too. When we got married in Oct.,2007 we had the harpist who played learn Josette's theme and Quentin's theme. lori
I love the song, Quentin's Theme. Also, I think Alice Cooper would be a wonderful actor to do Barnabus. That would be the best role for him.
Brian Mc Carthy
so cool, the harpist story pretender, and i dig the new AVATAR! Jonathan Frid nailed the part of Barnabas PERFECTLY. He said he wanted to put a great deal of emphasis on the human side of the story. THE inner struggles of the needing to have blood, but having a great deal of remorse for what he had done. Craig Benfer
I am a huge Dark Shadows fan. I actually liked the revival series too. Had it not been for Desert Storm, I think that series would have been succesful also.I had heard of the Johnny Depp big screen version a few years ago and was excited. I am REALLY looking forward to it. I do have some concerns though. Depp made a comment about not wanting his Barnabas character to be taken too seriously??? I also question the plot change. In the original series, Angelique turned Barnabas into a vampire so that he had to live forever with that curse. Barnabas's father locked him in the coffin to spare his son and the family name. In the new movie, Angelique turns him into a vampire and then locks him in a coffin???? I am still very excited and will be there on the first night. The Great Escape Theater. Craig Benfer
Oh, and as for Alice....I see him more in the Willie Loomis role or Reverend Trask.

pretender
I think Jackie Earl Haley has the Willie Loomis role but Alice would make a great Rev. Trask. And I have heard that Jonathan Frid has a small role.
MJ
Oooooh Reverend Trask!!! I am a huge DS fan always have been - I can even play bass to one of the songs they always played at the Blue Whale lol.... I can't wait for this movie to come out - I think JD will do an excellent job - I even like Helena being Julia - Wendy's been to the DS conventions! I wish I could have attended a bunch myself. I still have an autographed photo of Jonathan Frid my brother got for me in the subway in NYC in the 80's lol - I think I still have the photo of Jonathan when he did an instore (well outside) of Stearns in 1967 lol - I was soooo excited. I also own all the series on dvd - the music is so soothing sometimes puts me right out to sleep until someone screams bloody murder and wakes me up lol. Brian Mc Carthy
But the problem with these remakes,is they lack original star power. AND that is why so many of these movies are a bust.NOW if i am EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, i am making a valiant effort to get Kathryn Leigh Scott, Nancy Barrett, Lara Parker, David Selby, Kate Jackson, and of course Jonathan Frid.Oh and John Karlan. And even Ben Cross and Joanna Going from the revival series.
Brian Mc Carthy
AND not just for cameos, but significant lead roles. It is the formula for success. Because as a fan of the show, i invested so much love into these actors and the characters that they played. THEY are the ones that made this show legendary. AND defined the characters they played.
