IS Soccer Now "Tougher" Than Football?

I was listening to "The Troy Aikman Show" on the way to breakfast this morning... and Troy was "suggesting" that Soccer might be more rugged and manly than football... and if not now, it is headed that direction...

The fact that the NFL is taking "over the top" precautions, some think in knee-jerk reaction to a few hard-hits last week... and that Soccer players play with no helmet and much less in the way of protection, with much fewer injuries...

Also, he noted, that there more concussions in the NFL today than there were in the days of "leather helmets"... presumably because the defense is more willing to "lead with their heads" than they used to be... Aikman also stated that the way he and other American children are taught to make a tacke has become, obviously, totally illegal when it come sto tackling a quarterback...

Should the NFL stay out of the safety issue? Should they ban the use of helmets, knowing that the players will be much more careful if they think/know they can be hurt? Are we headed towarde the NFFL? (National Flag Football League)...

Thoughts?

Are the precautions really "over the top"? Football fans may like much more than just the brutality elements, but I cannot bear watching since the people tackling each other really do get hurt. We know so much more nowadays scientifically about concussions and long term effects of being hit on the head; there is no way they will take away the helmets. Players will not be more careful without them. Knowing that they can be hurt while wearing the helmets hasn't stopped them from doing dangerous things.

"Leading with the head" should be illegal.
