Scott McCarl's Voice

In my oppinion, Scott McCarl's imitations of John Lennon on "Play On" and "Cry" are some of the best John Lennon impressions I've ever heard. Sometimes when I'm listening to "Play on," I almost have to do a double take, because Scott has Lennon's voice down, even down to the slight rasp Lennon had when he was with the Beatles. I sing myself, and I can imitate quite a fiew voices, but John Lennon's voice is one I don't think I can even come close to, so it really surprises me that Scott could do it as well as he did. What do you guies think?

I'm pretty sure the John Lennon quality in Scott's voice, not to mention his ability to write great pop tunes, was what first caught Eric's attention after hearing Scott's demo tape.

There's more where that came from. Check out Scott's cd, Play On, it's good. I particularly like "In Love Without a Girl", (pure power pop), and his version of the 'berries Nobody Knows. Great liner notes too.

If you ask me (and of course no one has) if I was drinking a beer with Eric, I would float the following balloon, why not hook up McCarl and Ricky and the Tooth for a lost weekend at Beechwood studios in Cleveland? 2 or 3 new songs combined with remastering some of Eric's unreleased (and should be released ) demos, and you got yourself a killer final legacy album. Jimmy would have a lot of fun, playing with the mix and harmonies of E's and S's McCartney/Lennon vibe on compositions the public should hear.

Everything about that clip just says "ROCK STAR"! The band is rockin', the credits start to roll, the climactic finish to the song, the crowd roaring with applause as the show ends...one of my all time fave appearances!

Scott did say he had another album in him when I saw him a couple of years ago

It's interesting, that at that point Eric and Wally were already rockstars, and Scott was just this new kid, but he appears to adapt pretty quickly.

Don't get me wrong, Wally carries a lot of the water on this perfomance too, but Eric and Scott seem to mesh, and if you report that Scott has another album worth of songs wrote now, and we know Eric has a double album considering what he has copyright, and whats on his unfinished notebook right now on his grand, they should meet.. and then get Ienner to finish, or, Jeff Lynne or Mutt.

My guess, no inside info, of Eric, is he content to write for others, or get on the radio one last time? I'm just saying, , no spring chicken, Steven Tyler's now judging on Idol, incredible pipes, but Eric has that too, but Eric is also is an incredible musician, actually bigger package.

Hey, I'm a fan either way, but i'd like to see Eric back on the radio, one more time. Anyone with me and think it's concievable? I sure do.

I suspect the songs are alredy written. It's just about calling people that can get it done, as a fan i've speculated on a few, anyone but Clive.

One of the nicest human beings on the planet, too. I was going through alot of stuff when his solo CD came out many years ago and I had a fifty mile drive every morning, so I used to listen to it every day for a long time. Got me through alot of nonsense. Great record that should have sold a bazillion copies! Can't believe he hasn't released anything since after such a fantastic disk.

this is funny to me..sent our cd to wally and kay to listen to,and he said my voice reminded him of scotts!! i was very flattered..not only did wally like the songs,he liked my voice too!! awesome,never expected that!! i dont hear the similarities really,but ill take it!!

I never got to meet Scott when he played with Wally and Jim at the Odeon a few years back, it's something I regret. I did however make contact with him and he was able to send an Eric scrapbook I had for years and get it into Eric's hands which I confirmed later when I met Eric at a charity ballgame in Fort Myers.

For those of you who HAVEN'T heard Scott's Play On cd, you are cheating yourself. It is nothing short of a pop gem without a weak note or voice on it, just go get one ok????? You'll thank me later........The video clip we see on this post is pure musical magic, it's SPELLS ROCK N ROLL..the look, the energy, the tunes..you couldn't design a super group like this if you wanted to.....it chills me every time I play it.How a total talent and nice human being doesn't get his due and opportunity to share his talents with millions is simply a shame. I consider myself blessed to have seen live both versions of Raspberries, Eric solo many times and the 3 who appeared at the Odeon. On every one of those nights, the world seemed right and I was witness to the true definition of rock and musical GENIOUS in action..THANKS BOYS...I hope all of you take a moment now and then to give yourselves a bit of credit for sharing your gift of music to sooo many out here who have never forgotten one note of what you brought us....and Mr. McCarl...Scott..you are a HUGE talent who we witnessed for way too short of time, which makes me sad, really..but I got the Odeon video and your cd and starting over to remember you by. I hope oneday we can contact you directly to share our thoughts, memories and give thanks directly to you for all that you gave us in what was a very short time!!! Scott played a set at Poptopia in Hollywood in '98. It was cool to hear live, more so when Wally joined him for a couple of numbers at the end of the show! The good news is, it's available from ray@koolkatmusik.com if you'd like to get a copy of it

I wanted to comment on this a few days back, but the mystery "unable to log in" problem reared its ugly head again...

Can you imagine... and I see that you can... having Eric's genius as a song-writer and musician in the hands of Jim Steinman as a producer (and of course I mean music AND music video)... This would be nothing short of dynamic... or dynomite... No doubt that these are two strong-personalities and it would be magic or could be a disaster the size of the Boats debacle with Gus Dudgeon... Dungeon... whatever the hell his name is...

Of course it is not as far-fetched as it sounds on the surface... there is only "one degree" seperating them... and that degree is Dean Pitchford, who both worked with on the Footloose soundtrack...

Might be a dream to hope for something like this, but damn... it's one helluva dream!

I may not think as "big" as everyone else, but I would like to see Eric, Scott, Jim and a couple other guys/girls ripping thru Eric's catalog at the House of Blues. It doesn't have to be a big production - just five guys having fun playing some great music. Just plug in the guitars, turn up the amps, and let 'er rip. I hate the idea of all of that talent going to waste.
