LC
At the very least, Nancy, that photo might have been a better LP cover for Starting Over than the final version. More colorful, more immediate.... But, hindsight is 20/20.
Kirk
Then there's this fake little cover I quickly threw together a couple of month's ago for a "5th" Raspberries album- kept the Raspberries theme but toughened their stance (BTW, Kay said Wally liked it):
Nancy
Back in those days, (correct me if I may be wrong) but...back then "a" designer was called in to design a appropriate album cover. There job was to design a album cover that reflected "a" image, the bands image. A lot of times the bands did not like the design or image that the designer saw in his mind of how the band cover album (should) be presented. Also technology has advanced greatly as well. Sometimes, I think simplified is so much better. Capturing a more natural, true meaning of what a band or artist is all about. If you can get a picture like that, it will speak for itself and what the band character may be about. The photo, picture that I had commented on, captures just that in all's it simplicity. Kirk I think your creative cover is cool too but I'm not too keen on the "Bad Boys" titled below "Raspberries". Pictures can speak volume. Wally in a lot of his pictures shows a kind of a bad boy image. That look came about pretty much later with all the long (hair) band images. I said it once before and I guess it wouldn't hurt to say it again, "Raspberries" I think, were way a head of their time. Nancy
Nancy
It's kind of like the black and white picture on the first page of "The Cinderella Ballroom". By the title of the club (ballroom) you would think in your mind that it must be a real swanky, beautiful joint, (so to speak) and (maybe in color format, it is) but in it's black and white format, I laughed at the "creative" name of the place because it looks nothing like a ballroom but more like a large barn stall that would hold horses. I think I read on here somewhere, that this place has since been torn down. I would have loved to actually have seen this place. Think the owner created a pretty cool name for this place, intentionally. Now "THAT'S" what I call being "simply" creative AND most effective! Nancy.
Kirk
Eric has said Raspberries had no input on their first 3 album covers. At least on the 4th one they were able to see it before it was published. My fantasy 5th album cover takes the tougher stance of the Raspberries a step further- a little harder edge than what people perceived them to be. It's just a way to get people to notice the band (and hopefully) buy the album.
Nancy
You're "fake" cover is a cool sentiment Kirk. I just think personally, simple is (sometimes much better and just as effective). Thanks. Nancy.
LC
That photo on your cover, Kirk, sure is a far cry from the white-suit photos! Biceps, chains, shoulder-length hair, a classic sneer.... I wonder if that was a "grab" or from a session that spawned some alternate takes. And I wonder if there are color takes.... So many mysteries surrounding the '70s-era 'berries. Nancy
Kirk, kind of funny how they are all looking in different directions. Lol. And Eric looks too innocent here! Great photo though. Nancy.

Matthew C. Clark
Yes there was a Cinderella Ballroom also in Detroit where The J. Geils Band played in the early 70's & recorded the live "Full House" during a 1971 concert!!

Helen G
Once again, I find myself looking at the date these guys were booked into playing this site. Having lived almost my entire life in the "snowbelt" upper Illinois with countless trips into WI (until our move to NE FL in 2018), I would suggest that Appleton WI in late Dec. is a perfect set-up for a snowstorm? I always wonder how the band made it from point A to point B before the days of smart phone apps with weather/radar conditions, mapping etc. It's a wonder they didn't end up snow-marooned in some place like Gary IN, known for its lake effect snow, while coming west from Cleveland/NE Ohio! (It was also during this year that my husband was in a popular barbershop a cappella quartet that was booked to do a show in Painted Post NY (not all that far from Corning, Buffalo, Syracuse etc). Somehow they made it through a blinding snowstorm, only to get to the gig site to find out that the locals had called off the show due to the (gulp!) blizzard). 😉❄️
