seattlesteve
It is simply amazing how many succesful rock and roll/musicians were born in 1949. I have a theory that I feel is absolutely no coincidence.. the answer is at the bottom of this post, but the clue is 2.9.64 These 1949 births reads like a Who's Who of Rock, much longer than I even suspected.. Eric Carmen Billy Joel Bruce Springsteen Rick Springfield Steve Perry Paul Rodgers Simon Kirke Gene Simmons Lindsey Buckingham Mark Knopfler John Oates Robert Palmer Lionel Ritchie Ric Ocasek Nick Lowe Eddie Money Robin/Maurice Gibb Roger Taylor 2/3 of ZZ Rick Wakeman David Foster What do they all have in common? My guess is that virtually everyone on this list, as impressionable and aspiring 14/15 year olds, were watching Ed Sullivan on February 9, 1964. Eric, do you concur with my analysis of this "coincidence"? Seattle Steve (this is only 1949, add a couple years to this range it gets scarier, the world will never again see that degree of musical influence by anyone, ever again.. imho)

Raspbernie
I have to agree with you! Interesting story: Eric called me back in 2005 after Raspberries had announced their first appearance in New York City since their triumphant show at Carnegie Hall in 1973!Eric wanted to create a new pre-concert video like the one Ken and I did for the first few reunion shows. His idea was to fade up on a residential street lined with modest houses. A caption would appear saying: CLEVELAND 1964. We would move slowly down the street and stop at one house. A light would be seen flickering in a front living room. Inside, we'd see 4 kids watching TV. Each would resemble Eric, Wally, Dave and Jim. On the TV, of course, would be the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The screen would fade to black and another caption would appear saying: NEW YORK CITY 2005. By then, the audience would be exploding with thunderous applause and anticipation! From the stage everyone would hear the opening bar of "Ticket To Ride," which would explode into the intro of "I Wanna Be With You"--exactly like they did it at their triumphant appearance at Carnegie Hall in 1973!Cool, huh? Tim From Wisconsin
That would have been an awesome video if you could have pulled it off Bernie! Also, my favorite - Ozzy Osbourne - was born in December of 1948, so add him to the incredible list from that era. He is quoted that seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan inspired him to get into music as well!Tim
blackhawkpat
Interesting list, Steve, and by no coicidence, this list is probably ninety percent of who I still listen to virtually every day in 2009! (The Beatles making up the other ten percent.)

darlene
There are no coincideneces--no accidents in life. There's enough talent on those lists to rock the planet! Lists or not, all you have to do is listen to one of Eric's creations and you know his talent alone can rock the planet! --Darlene
