In November 1979, Eric made his first trip to Japan. These photos provide a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the press events Eric participated in while in Tokyo.

Eric explained his excitement to be playing live in Japan to the Japanese press saying, "Prior to my two years that I had not performed, I had been touring quite extensively and I reached a point where, in the United States, I was beginning not to enjoy it as much because I had done it so much. I decided to take a year off to see if I could recreate the desire to want to play again live. The very first opportunity that I've had to do that was presented by the Yamaha Music Foundation to come here to Japan and play at Budokan with a large orchestra. That was a very exciting proposition so I decided it was time for me to come back onstage."

The press conference also included this memorable (and funny) exchange:

HOST: You said your hobby is girls. Do you have a lot of girlfriends?

ERIC: A few, but there's always room for more [laughs from audience].

HOST: What about Japanese girls?

ERIC: Lovely. I haven't had a chance to meet many yet, but...

HOST: In a very old movie, Gene Tierney, a very Oriental-looking girl,

was a nice actress. Do you like something like her?

ERIC: She's a little old for me right now [laughs]. But she was

definitely my type.
