missm
After watching coverage of all things Michael Jackson since last Thursday, I have to say this...JACKSONS, PLEASE PUT THAT MAN IN THE GROUND ALREADY!! Mike was just another brother from Gary, Indiana! If Joe Jackson had not given Mike and his brothers a Taliban upbringing they would all still be some brothers in Gary. Yes, Mike was talented and yes, many in the world admired him..but for the love of Pete...get him in the ground!! Gee don't these Jacksons realize all of this burial hesitation is starting to monk up the gears on the money making machine (that starting running last Thursday afternoon). It just explains why Mike spent the past 20 years dressing up like a Ringmaster. His family are a bunch of clowns and have turned this event (not unlike Mike's life) into a circus. As for his fans who don't know whether to scratch their watches or wind their butts, a plan needs to be publicized relative to his memorial. There was even a small group of local renegade clowns in Ocean Beach who wound up being a laughing stock for the tribute they tried to launch that did not happen. Bessieboo
I agree, can't they find a little quiet dignity even in death ?It's not a show it's a funeral.

blackhawkpat
Rumors are rampant they are going to "only" charge twenty five bucks a head to get in (I'm not kidding!) Joe, you are a scumbag even after your son died.

angelina
I'm afraid the show will go on ...even when MJ is dead. There's a special $25 seat in hell for Joe Jackson (MJ's dad...not the "Steppin'-Out" dude).

missy
I have to say if I hear one more news person report, "the whole world is mourning MJ's death" or "the whole world is shocked" I'm going to scream. The whole world includes me and I'm neither mourning or shocked. Yes, he was a great entertainer but he didn't discover the cure for cancer. As a matter of fact many scientist and doctors who are responsible for saving lives go unnoticed everyday! I wonder if any of these people who are now so quick to profess their undying "love" for him ever tried to stop him from slowly killing himself, very sad. I don't disagree with you, you make very valid points. But let's not forget where all of us are right now... we're at a site devoted to a singer/musician. How many of us go to sites devoted to doctors or Nobel prize winners every day? Or even *ever*? Entertainers are revered in our culture, and Michael Jackson is up there with the best of them, despite not having found the cure for cancer. Does that mean the press et all should nominate him for sainthood? No. But the press is only doing their job, and if people weren't glued to the tv for hours a day watching the reports, they'd drop him like a hot potato. They're getting ratings out of this, and it is, in the end, a numbers game from their perspective. As for people stopping him from killing himself... c'mon, he was fifty years old, for me the blame game doesn't work. HE is the only one who could have stopped it. Any man brilliant enough to accomplish the things he accomplished is capable enough to know there's a reason why 99% of doctors will say NO when you ask them for diprivan for household use. He apparently sought out the 1% who said yes... it was a choice. He knew the risks. You can't save someone from themselves.
darlene
A good, thoughtful post, Julia. I agree with virtually all of what you said. He wasn't "just an entertainer." He was a phenomenon and was adored to the extreme by his fans AND many of the highest calibre mega-stars as well. I do believe his family, especially Joe, really fouled things up with their on-again/off-again arrangements with the promoter/owner of Staples Center and that they made a royal mess out of it all. No wonder Michael avoided his family like the plague, for the most part. His death is news, however, and as long as people sit with their eyes on the little screen and tune in to all the reports, the media will run with it.I do blame the unscrupulous creep(s) who kept Michael medicated, especially with Diprivan. Michael was messed up enough to be totally vulnerable, and probably, like most people in his condition who are severely depressed/anxious, trusted the wrong people. He literally didn't think he would die using this stuff because he told his friends, "The doctor says it's safe." He was naive enough to trust that charlatan.Unfortunately, celebs attract a lot of wannabes and hangers-on who inveigle their way into an inner sanctum of trust by pretending to be an honest friend. Obviously this one wasn't.--Darlene
