Matthew C. Clark
When I listened to the long version of "All By Myself", it reminds me of the late Hagood Hardy song "The Homecoming" also from 1976. What do you think?? Matt
danmichel
Actually The Homecoming comes from the 1971 TV movie that led up to the TV series The Waltons in 1972...The Hagood Hardy song served as the opening theme.Other than some fine piano playing...i don't hear a big similarity...except that perhaps Hagood Hardy was influenced by the same great composer that Eric Carmen was...in albeit a less direct way. I was 11 years old when The Homecoming originally aired...And although i knew very little about how network TV worked...i predicted it would become a hit TV series...Yeah...I loved the movie that much!...I related to John Boy in the movie back then...and still do to this day.The Homecoming is a beautiful song which can still take me back to the way i felt the first time i saw that movie...The power of music can be that strong. missm
highwayangel, how is it that you can mention two of my favorite programs in one post? Both shows had episodes with family problems, but they still were wholesome and engaging. Did you read Laura Ingalls Wilders' books!! I did and it just made the series even better. She paints spectacular mental pitcures with words. The Waltons...loved it, love it!!!Did you ever check out "Touched by an Angel"?

Trindy
danmichel, where do you get the information that the Hagood Hardy song "The Homecoming" was used in the TV-movie of the same name? My understanding is that it was originally written about a year after that movie came out, and that it was written for a Salada Tea commercial that ran in Canada. At least that's what I recall hearing, and what Googling tells me...I believe the matching titles of the two works are sheer coincidence. I stand corrected!...I looked for The Homecoming: A Christmas Story on YouTube...and it does not use the Hagood Hardy song as it's theme...I got the my info from DJ information that came with the nostalgia music format we used to use on our AM station...So i've been wrong about that song for years...I must have melded my memory of the movie into the "facts" i was given about the song...Which turned out to be totally wrong. Now i wanna know...Are you the real Trindy?...Or are you some new person named Trindy Dammit? The show made me appreciate the importance of family and gave me a glimpse in what it might have been like to grow up in my parent's era.As for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Books: They were my favorite series of books I had growing up! I have the complete set on paperback.I tried to get my two boys interested in reading the series when they were younger...but unfortunately, "boys will be boys"!...maybe someday I'll have a granddaughter I can pass my little treasure to who will appreciate the captivating, well-written stories! Thanks everyone for bringing back fond memories!
